Понравилось это эссе Goodbye, Chuck Bass, I'm not going to miss you.
[English isn’t my native language, so if you’re reading this, I apologize for all the mistakes I’ve made, even though it’s just random babbling…]
They would’ve done a better job killing the character off, in my opinion. Trying to destroy whatever chance the woman you love to be happy wasn’t good enough, they had to end it with that god awful final scene. I’m saying “final”, since in my opinion, Blair should get a restraining order against Chuck and never speak to him again.
I’m not that invested in GG to be sure if that’s true, but I’ve heard multiple times that Chair was endgame, and will be endgame. Well, if it is the plan, good luck, dear writers. We’ll see.
I’ve always loved Dair scenes, but stayed a loyal Chair fan up until the “selling your girlfriend for the hotel” shit, and when the amount of Dair shippers began to grow and they started to become friends I had no problem crossing over to the Pauper Team. There are some things you can’t forgive, ever, and Blair is too good for coming back to that bastard. She already wanted him back, remember? And what did he do? Tried to humiliate her friend? Tried to destroy her dream that was already coming true? For fucks sake, tried to rape her?!
If the writers on GG have any sense left, there will never-ever-ever be Chuck and Blair again. Never. You could argue that he finally hit rock bottom, that he’ll realize who he’s become. That he’ll change for her, eventually. Well, who fucking cares? How many seasons will it take for him to win her back in that case? 5? 8?
No matter how much you love someone, there are things that should never be forgiven. Forgotten (although that’s impossible) - yes, but forgiven - no, I don’t think so.
Chuck and Blair were good once. When they were playing their games with other people, when they were — kind of — happy. Those people are gone now. Chuck’s character has been assassinated and Blair grew up. And found her Prince and her Pauper. Dark Knight isn’t in the picture anymore. I mean, if he is, what the fuck is going on with this world? Is displaying a dysfunctional relationship like this and posing it as “epic love” really good? Do you, dear writers, really think that 14 year old girls should think that? That if they love somebody, no matter how much he abuses them, they’ll always end up with that person, they should always go back? Do you really think that this is a right message?
Logan: I thought our story was epic, you know, you and me.
Veronica: Epic how?
Logan: Spanning years and continents. Lives ruined, bloodshed. Epic. But summer’s almost here, and we won’t see each other at all. And then you leave town… and then it’s over.
Veronica: Logan…
Logan: I’m sorry about last summer. You know, if I could do it over…
Veronica: Come on. Ruined lives? Bloodshed? You really think a relationship should be that hard?
Logan: No one writes songs about the ones that come easy.
Certainly, no one does. But they got back together, broke up again, but the look on Veronica’s face in their last scene, that look said it all. Their love was epic and will always be, no matter what the writers intended them to be if the show ever got picked up for another season. There might have been no Logan, or he might have been back at some point, but never could I ever think of them not being endgame, even if it’s just my imagination. And they’ve both hurt each other multiple times, screwed up, apologized, forgave each other and got back together. Logan stayed with Veronica till the very end, he cared for her, protected her the best way he could.
A lot of characters got screwed up because the writers didn’t understand them, didn’t want to understand them, didn’t care enough or just weren’t good enough writers. Some could come back and gain respect of the viewers again, but some couldn’t. And Chuck Bass in one of the latter ones.
Lets be honest, we’ve forgiven him for enough bullshit over the years, mostly because of his daddy issues, but there’s always a line that you’re never supposed to cross while writing a character. It’s different for every single one of them, and in my opinion, Chuck’s line has been crossed a long time ago. Some of us just didn’t realize it.
Fangirls are fangirls, let’s be honest, if they’re truly biased, there’s not much a character can do to lose their love and devotion. But come on, people, after last night’s episode? Can you really still ship Chair? Don’t you care for Blair at all?
I want happiness for every character on the show. I want Nate and Raina married with a thousand of gorgeous babies, living somewhere in Southern California, as far from New York as possible, I want Dan and Blair happy (not necessarily together, but happy, even though right now they’re each other’s best shots of happiness. If someone better suited for either of them comes along – sure, I’ll be okay with that), I even want Jenny and Vanessa happy, and most of all I hope for Eric to get a boyfriend again and stop being everyone’s advisor, seriously, poor guy has no life lately. Even Serena… but everyone should pay for their mistakes and for the shit they’ve done to other people. Chuck’s going to be paying for a long-long time, and Blair has already suffered enough. Give the girl a break, dear writers, it’s not like she can’t have problems other than Chuck, in a relationship or single and fabulous.
She’s been my favorite character on the show since the heartbreaking scene she had with Serena back in season one, the one where Blair was reading a letter that she’d never sent. She’s all grown up now, she deserves someone who can appreciate her for who she really is and love her for that. And right now Dan’s the only one who really knows her.
So yeah, go Team Pauper, let’s hope (and fight, can we?) for our happy ending.
