All the Rhodes girls are back on the Upper East Side and they still aren't aware that there is an imposter in their midst.
On tonight's episode of Gossip Girl, Ivy continues to dupe Lily, Cece and Serena with the help of her faux mother Carol, Blair seeks out Chuck to try to understand how to make Louis good again, Nate makes his first move as editor of The Spectator and Dan wallows in self pity.
Let's break down all the action:

The main players

Cece Rhodes returns to New York to celebrate the anniversary of Studio 54 as the guest of honor. She, along with Lily, Serena and Charlie, plan to attend the big event, decked out in 70s attire.
But Charlie's (Ivy's) ex-boyfriend Max is threatening to ruin the party for our imposter Rhodes girl. Max has been spending time getting to know Serena and threatens to expose Charlie's secret if she doesn't get him $500,000.
Serena seems smitten with Max. They spend 24 hours together exploring New York and he even offers to bake the cake for Cece's big event. And getting close to Serena is all part of Max's plans. The more she trusts him, the easier it will be to make her believe the truth about Charlie.
So, to keep Max quiet, Charlie calls in Carol Rhodes, who has been behind the whole Ivy-Charlie switch-up from the beginning. Carol is invested in Ivy's secret because it allows Carol to continue accessing her daughter's trust fund and bank account. In order to get Max the $500,000 to shut him up, Carol and Charlie devise a plan to make Cece think that Charlie needs a new apartment. At first, Cece thinks that Carol is once again just looking for money and using the "new apartment" story to get her share.
The confrontation with Carol causes Cece to have a dizzy spell, which Charlie witnesses. It turns out that Cece is taking blood pressure medication and is hiding it from the rest of her family.
Charlie seems to have everything under control. She convinces Cece that she really does want the money for a new apartment and she even gets Serena to reconsider seeing Max because she may be "moving too fast" and convinces Serena to beware of Max's feelings for his old girlfriend.
But when Serena overhears Lily and Carol arguing about making Charlie pretend to be "Ivy" she believes that something is up and she's being duped. So, she calls Max and tells him to come to the apartment that night because the party for Cece was canceled and they would have the place to themselves.
But when Max walks into the room, he is met by a loud crew getting ready to go to the Studio 54 anniversary party. And as soon as he enters, Charlie runs to him to figure out what he is doing there. But then Serena approaches and demands to know why Charlie and Max have both been lying to her.
The commotion with Serena and Charlie proves to be too much for Cece to handle and she passes out. This buys Charlie some time to try to figure out how to explain herself.
Charlie covers for Cece, saying that her grandmother has been dieting and that it's nothing to worry about. And while the family is around, Charlie spins her story so that Max looks like the bad guy. She tells Cece, Lily and Serena that she was asking for the money to pay off Max. She explains that he was blackmailing her and threatening the release of a sex tape. And even when Max denies all the lies and explains that Charlie is really Ivy Dickens who grew up in trailer parks, no one believes he is telling the truth. And Carol conveniently took away his pamphlet of proof that showed Charlie for who she really is.
So Serena tells Max to leave and Charlie solidifies her place as a member of the Rhodes family. Even though she has enough money to leave and start her life over, Charlie decides to stay and live in New York because she enjoys feeling like part of a family.
But it doesn't look like Max is going to go away without a fight. He calls Charlie (Ivy) at the end of the episode and tells her he isn't going to quit until he gets what he deserves. He tells her to watch her back
Charlie really established herself as a force to be reckoned with during this episode. Her scheming was pretty impressive and it seems like she is not going to go anywhere without a fight. But how much longer can Ivy keep up the charade?

At bat

During last week's episode, Blair told her husband-to-be that she needed space and time to reassess their relationship. Blair is convinced that Prince Louis has turned to the dark side and she decides to try to figure out how to get him back to being good.
So, obviously, she turns to Chuck for help.
Blair pays her old flame a visit to try to extract from him how he went about changing from a soulless mess of a human being to the caring, complete and non-destructive person he is now. Chuck tries to explain to Blair that his transition wasn't something that came easily and that it is a process.
But Blair insists on going to therapy with Chuck to try to figure out how she can use Chuck's process to fix her fiancée. During the therapy session, Chuck reveals that he had to let go of her to move on. He reveals that he returned the engagement ring he bought her to Harry Winston so that he could finally let her go. This revelation visibly upsets Blair and she storms out of the session.
During her cake tasting, Blair seems distracted and Chuck comes to visit to try to figure out why she ran off. He says that the only reason he returned the ring was because Blair asked him to let her go and he just wanted her to have the happy life she deserved. But Blair is convinced that she was the one who brought out Chuck's dark side and that she's doing the same thing to Prince Louis.
But Chuck tells Blair that she was the "lightest thing" that ever came into his life and that he only turned to a dark and desperate place because he was scared of losing her. They are interrupted by the cake lady who mistakes Chuck for the groom of the wedding, but Chuck clarifies that he is not the groom and leaves Blair to her thoughts.
At the end of the episode, Blair is upset and Chuck admits to Nate that he still loves Blair and can't imagine the day he won't. The feelings are obviously still there and next week's mid-season finale looks like it will be another twist in the Chuck and Blair story.

Warming up

Nate has taken of The NY Spectator from Diana Payne and he is now Editor in Chief of the publication.
And in his first week of work, Nate promises that he won't scheme and manipulate people just to print a story. He promises his staff that he will only publish items that are true and fact-checked. And when he asks for suggestions, one worker offers up a possible congressman's wife who's having an affair. The congressman happens to be his cousin Tripp Vanderbilt.
So, Nate is left with a difficult situation. He doesn't know whether to publish the piece to show the fair and unbiased new direction of the Spectator or to keep the story under wraps to protect his family.
But Nate ultimately decides that he will run the story as long as the facts check out and he makes the situation clear to Tripp before he decides to run the story.
But while checking things out, Nate learns that Tripp and his wife Maureen are faking the affair to try to help Tripp's chances of winning a future election. The congressman and his wife are trying to spin Tripp as a victim.
So, when Nate figures out the truth, he tells his grandfather the truth and, once again, has to make a decision about printing the truth. Instead of writing a scathing article about Tripp, Nate writes an editorial alluding to the scam without naming names. His editorial piece supposedly proves the new direction of the Spectator and his staff and his grandfather respect him for it.
It is actually nearly impossible for us to believe that Nate is the editor of a newspaper and that people actually respect him. He should be rolling joints somewhere, not fact-checking stories in a suit. We don't buy it.

On the bench

Dan spent the entire episode battling online haters who aren't into his published book. Dan actually goes as far as to hunt down the apartment of "IHateHumphrey" who actually turns out to be his own agent Alessandra.
Alessandra explains to Dan that she was just keeping up the avatar and twitter feed to try to build buzz about the book. She tells Dan that her reputation is on the line and that she needed to get people talking about the book again.
So, at the end of the episode, both she and Dan collaborate to try to get Twitter buzzing about Dan's book-with good and bad feedback. And their plan seems to be helping put Dan on the map once again.

Best plays of the night

- Serena to Max: ". "Could we cover ourselves in flour and lick spoons and do other cute things?" This is exactly something we think Serena would do.
- We love that IHateHumphrey and HumphreyLove are actual Twitter feeds
- Blair: "Do I look like the kind of girl that makes margaritas?"
- Thrilled with the return of Cece Rhodes.
- You have to hand it to Charlie and her quick thinking and scheming. Somehow she is still managing to fool everyone.
- Chuck to Blair: "You never pulled me to the dark side. You were the lightest thing that ever came into my life."
- Nate to Chuck: "You still love [Blair], don't you?" Chuck: "I can't imagine the day I won't.
- The promo for next week's episode was probably the most exciting thing of the night. Looking forward to the big mid-season finale.

‘Gossip Girl’ Recap: Chuck Confesses He Still Loves Blair, Plus More ‘OMG’ Moments
http://www.hollywoodlife.com/2011....ir-love

Chuck says he still loves Blair; the two go to couples therapy; Charlie is almost outed for the hundredth time — and much more on the Nov. 28 episode of ‘Gossip Girl’

We all know how difficult it’s been for Chuck to drop the “L” bomb to Blair in the past — it was the root of their first break-up after all. So when Chuck admits to his best friend that he can’t imagine the day when he’s NOT in love with her, it’s a pretty big step in the right Chairection.

Blair (Leighton Meester) joins Chuck (Ed Westwick) in his therapy session in an attempt to learn how he turned his “bad Bass ways” into his new life with a live-in Dalai Lama. What was supposed to be a session just about Chuck turned into a Chair couple’s therapy. The two learned more about their relationship with each other in those few minutes than they have in their entire relationship.

Blair wanted to know how Chuck has changed and she got an answer she didn’t want to hear. Mr. Bass told her he changed after he returned the engagement ring he wanted to give her to Harry Winston…a symbol of finally letting her go. This, of course, really upset her and she left immediately to attend the wedding cake testing. Oh yeah, that wedding…

Chuck ran to Blair’s side and asked if she was upset. She clearly was and admitted all this time she blamed him for “bringing her into the darkness,” but really it was her who brought out the darkness in him. So deep. Chuck — like the new gentleman he is — denied this and said Blair is the “brightest” thing has ever came into his life.

Later in a macho man-to-man talk over whiskey, Nate asks the big question: “Do you still love her (Blair)?” And Chuck says: “I can’t imagine a day that I won’t.”

Sounds like true love to me! Tonight’s episode made me more confident than ever that Blair will run out of her wedding and into the arms of Chuck. Don’t you agree??

More ‘OMG’ moments:

#1 Charlie’s is almost exposed once again!

This time I really thought Charlie (KayLee Defer) was in trouble though, despite every other episode’s false alarm. Her ex-boyfriend Max tried to reveal her real identity at Cece Rhodes’ Studio 54 party and Serena (Blake Lively) believed him. Fortunately, Lily’s (Kelly Rutherford) sister — Charlie’s “mom” — is a professional schemer and caught Max’s plan before it was too late. I can’t help but wonder though, WHO is the real Charlie Rhodes? Is she alive or dead? Will we ever see her? Will Charlie go and try to find her since we know she “disappears” before Blair’s wedding? Hmmm…

#2 An Archibald family affair

Just what we need… Trip Archibald back in the picture. This guy has been nothing but trouble since the beginning of GG time, but we’re going to have to deal with it. Nate (Chace Crawford) finds out from one of his reporters (remember he IS Editor-in-Chief of the NY Spectator now) that his sister-in-law Maureen — Trip’s wife — is having an affair with her sailing instructor. This turns out to be a scheme plotted by Maureen to put her politician husband back in the press. So rather than publishing the story about the affair, Nate runs an article about how the affair was just a big lie! And surprisingly, the holy grandfather is very proud of Nate.

#3 Dan is falling for his agent

I’m absolutely hating this already. This girl annoys me. But if Dan (Penn Badgley) is happy, I guess I can try to be happy for him. Lonely Boy tries to figure out who started the @IHateHumphrey Twitter account only to learn it’s his sneaky agent. The two hash things out and bond over all of his social media haters. Vomit.

#4 Cece Rhodes is sick

Oh no! Grandma Rhodes is back, but she’s brought her health issues with her. We’re not sure exactly what she has, but she’s sick with something. This will of course wreak major havoc with the Rhodes/ Van Der Woodsens. Perfect!

In next week’s preview Blair talks about canceling the wedding (which we know is not true) and then there is a car crash. I’m posing this question now: will Blair be the one in the car crash and will she lose the baby??

I really can’t wait until next Monday to get to the bottom of this.

What do you think, Hollywoodlifers? Were you happy with tonight’s episode? What did you think about the Chair moments? Sound off in your comments below!

‘Gossip Girl,’ Season 5, Episode 9, ‘Rhodes to Perdition’: TV Recap

It’s another week and another party on Gossip Girl. Seriously, there are so many parties which all look the same that I can’t tell a baby shower from a wedding shower. The only difference is a toilet paper dress versus baby food diapers. Both of them have cake and Tiffany.

Tonight, it’s a Studio 54 party. There’s a lot of sparkly dresses going on. Serena’s grandma is coming. Grandma Rhodes, who apparently has high blood pressure and health problems, says she doesn’t want fake Charlie/Ivy’s fake mom to be there, but I’m guessing there will be a surprise! Ten minutes later, Carol, Lily’s sister, walks on it. Because Carol really wants access to her trust fund.

Max, Charlie/Ivy’s ex, is now schmoozing Serena. He’s offering to bake a cake for the party – all while blackmailing Ivy/Charlie for supermoney.

Dan is still sad and alone. He stalks down someone who hates him online and it turns out to be someone at his publishing house, trying to drum up sales. Louis is allegedly away doing missionary work and not calling Blair. Wasn’t he just away in Italy? Blair says the wedding is still on.

Nate is taking over the Spectator and says any scandal needs to be verified. And the first scandal that comes up has to do with this Congressional cousin, Tripp, the same one who was messing around with Serena a couple seasons ago. Turn’s out Tripp’s wife is allegedly sleeping around. Nate wants to break the story to show that the paper is fair, but why do we feel this is a setup?

Now Nate believes Tripp’s wife is making it up for sympathy for her husband. He doesn’t publish the story but some blah blah statement on how the paper WOULD if it were true.

Chuck is now doing yoga in a tie and button-down. Blair comes to him for suggestions on how to get Louis to change into a nice guy. Way to push your luck girlie! Blair goes with Chuck to therapy, where he tells her about leaving the engagement ring on Harry Winston’s doorstep and that’s how let her go. Blair believes that she brought out Chuck’s dark side and now she’s doing the same with Louis.

Studio 54! Winged hair! White suits!

Serena overhears Carol and Lily having a fight about Charlie/Ivy. She discovers that Charlie is also known as Ivy, and also knows that Max’s ex was named Ivy. Uh-oh! Serena wants the truth! And then grandma falls on the floor! She tells everyone it’s because she was dieting and felt faint. Ivy tells everyone that Max is blackmailing her for a tape. Max says she’s really an actress who grew up in a trailer park and is scamming all of them. He’s booted from the apartment.

Then the five of them have a little 70s party in the apartment and Rufus is left alone, dancing in the spotlight with his three-sentence limit.

Chuck tells Blair she’s the light who lights up his life. That he only turned dark because he was sad without her love and oh lord this is so cheezy I can’t take it and I love Chuck and Blair. He can’t imagine the day he won’t love Blair. Where is Debbie Boone?

Ivy, whose real, real name is Charlotte, tells fake mom that she wants to stay and be part of the Rhodes family. Carol says she’ll keep that flier that tells the truth and make sure no one sees it. Sure. And Max says he’s not leaving down until he gets what he deserves.

Next week: Louis wants Blair back. There are schmoochies between Chuck and Blair and a car crash.

Hit shows that have overstayed their welcome

This is not a story about ratings. This is a story about shows that have overstayed their welcome.

5. "Gossip Girl"

Doesn't it feel like "Gossip Girl" has been on for longer than five seasons? Yeah, that's not a good thing. Soapy dramas have to walk a fine line between too little action and piling on so much drama that the storylines and characters become tedious and unbelievable.

"GG" has hit the latter point.

Was it the Blair/Dan flirtation that sent the show hurling towards jump-the-shark status? Serena's affairs with her teacher and Nate's married cousin (and Nate himself)? The Blair and Chuck breakup and her eventual engagement to a prince? Jenny dealing drugs? Dan's novel? Yes, yes, yes, yes and yes.

http://www.hollywoodlife.com/2011....r-crash - ‘Gossip Girl’ Recap: Chuck & Blair Get In A Car Crash After An Emotional Reunion, Plus More ‘OMG’ Moments

It looks like Blair survived the car crash — but will her baby and the LOVE of her life Chuck Bass? Sadly, We’re going to have to wait until Jan. 16 to find out…

Tonight — Dec. 5 — marks an iconic chapter in Gossip Girl history. After years of affairs, fighting and just plain royal pains Chuck (Ed Westwick) and Blair (Leighton Meester) finally made the decision to spend the rest of their lives together. But now Chuck may not have the rest of his life to live.

Who would have thought DAN HUMPHREY (Penn Badgley) would be the mastermind behind the greatest Chair scene of all time? Instead of selfishly confessing his own love for Blair, he blindfolded her and whisked away to a candlelit room where Chuck –her real true love — was waiting for her. It was then and there that they FINALLY were on the same page and ready to take the plunge with each other. Chuck told Blair exactly what she needed to hear to choose him over Prince Louis (Hugo Becker): “I will love you as much as I love your baby.” That scene definitely brought a tear to my eye!

Then, in an attempt to leave Charlie’s (KayLee Defer) trust fund party (we’ll get to that one later), gossip girl leaked a tip of Chair’s whereabouts, triggering the paparazzi to follow them. In just a few seconds with the flash of a camera and the wrong turn of a wheel, Chuck and Blair’s love story took a turn for the absolute worst. Chuck and Blair got into a car crash and now Chuck is barely clinging on to his own life!

I definitely did not see that one coming and I refuse to believe Chuck will actually die, there’s no way, but I’m really worried. While we don’t know if Blair lost the baby or not, is it safe to assume she did? I’m going to go ahead and say it now though, this was the BEST GG episode EVER. Hands down! From Chair to Charlie to Derena…. Jan. 16 is too long of a wait to see how this all pans out.

Here are my top ‘OMG’ moments of the night:

#1 Chair Limo Scene Part Deux

Chuck and Blair’s love story began when they first hooked up in the backseat of the limo leaving the Victrola, and tonight their romance went full circle and they reunited in the backseat of a limo. They were talking about how they were going to raise Blair’s baby and telling each other how much they loved each other, and then BAM a car crash! I REFUSE to believe this is the end of their romance. Just because their story started in the limo doesn’t mean it will end in one.

#2 Dan Still Loves Blair

Dan deserves an award for best Upper East Sider EVER after tonight’s episode. Dan admitted that he still loves Blair and called her to tell her, but conveniently Blair was looking for a place to escape the paparazzi and Lonely Boy’s Brooklyn loft seemed like the best place to do so. Instead of telling Blair he still loved her, he helped her choose between Prince Louis and Chuck. It was so noble of him!

# Serena Still Loves Dan

Poor S, she realized the feelings Dan harbors for Blair are exactly what she feels for Dan. However, the weird creepy stepbrother/sister storyline continues to creep me out, so I’m glad Dan doesn’t feel the same way about Serena (Blake Lively).

#4 Charlie Reveals Her Identity And Leaves The UES!

Charlie’s party was interrupted by the news of crash which was sort of her fault to begin with. Charlie sent the tip about Chuck and Blair to distract the press covering her party because she didn’t want them to pay attention to her ex-boyfriend Max in case he tried to reveal her identity for the hundredth time. After the crash at the hospital, the guilt took over Charlie and she confessed she was a fraud to Rufus (Matthew Settle). The question remains: will Rufus tell everyone else? For some reason, I think Rufus will keep her secret.

This mid-season finale episode was so amazing, but I’m definitely worried about Chuck! Could he really die?? What do you think, Hollywoodlifers? Vote and sound off in your comments below!

It's not a true Gossip Girl cliffhanger without a car accident and a main character in danger!

Yes, the CW show had its third car accident, which put fan favorite Chuck (Ed Westwick), whose father died in a season-two car accident, in jeopardy. Also in jeopardy? Ivy's (Kaylee DeFer) place on the Upper East Side (and in the Rhodes/van der Woodsen family after she outed herself as a fraud.

Here are the top five shocking moments from Gossip Girl's fall finale...

1. Chuck and Blair's Road to Happily Ever After Hits a Snag: Or, you know, a wall. Too soon? Blair (Leighton Meester), who starts off the episode torn between Chuck and Louis (Hugo Becker), decides it all really comes down to her child. If Chuck can love Louis' baby, she'll be with him. Obviously, this is TV, so Chuck didn't tell her the truth when she asked him this question and suggests she stay with Louis. Thanks to Dan (Penn Badgley), the two come together at Charlie's party, and Chuck confesses he'll love Louis' baby as much as he loves Blair. Cue Chair fans crying tears of joy! Before they can get to the kissing, a Gossip Girl blast is sent out revealing that Chuck and Blair are at the party together. Ruh-roh!

In their limo, Blair tells Chuck she loves him and could never promise Louis she would never leave him because Chuck is the one she never wants to leave. As the two make plans for their new family, the paparazzi surround the car, which leads to a horrible accident. At the hospital, we learn Blair is awake and responsive while Chuck...is not looking too good. Of course the big cliffhanger is whether or not Chuck will wake up, but considering he's survived a bullet wound, we're sure Mr. Bass will survive this. The condition of Blair's baby is still a mystery, but judging from the promo, it's not looking good.

MORE: Misha Collins Returning to Supernatural! How Long Is Castiel Back For?

2. Ivy's Outs Herself as a Fraud: Oh, you didn't really think Ivy would get away with her little identity switch forever, did you? Oh, you did? That's sweet. We remember our first TV show. After spending the entire episode worrying about Max selling her story to the press, Ivy/Charlie finally cracks at her big party, sending Gossip Girl the blast about Chuck and Blair in an attempt to have the party crashed by the paparazzi and then canceled. After learning of their accident, Ivy is overcome by guilt and finally spills her big secret to a shell-shocked Rufus. Before she can confess to the rest of the gang, Lily receives the bad news about Chuck and Ivy slips away and calls Carol to let her know she's leaving. Dun-dun-dun!

3. Tripp Becomes a Villain? Gossip Girl, stop trying to destroy our love for Aaron Tveit by hinting he may have attempted to kill (or hurt) our beloved Nate (Chace Crawford). Tveit is made of puppies, rainbows and candy canes and we refuse to believe anything else! Still, Tripp was pretty pissed about losing his grandfather's support, which was now being given to intern-to-editor-in-chief-in-five-minutes extraordinaire Nate. It seems like Chuck and Blair mistakenly got into Nate's limo, which was leaking! Was Nate supposed to be the accident's casualty? We can't wait to find out.

MORE: Exclusive Casting Scoop: Once Upon a Time Finds Its Gaston!

4. Dan Sacrifices His Happiness for Blair's: With four simple words ("It wouldn't [matter] to me") in response to Blair's worry over Chuck being able to love Louis' child as his own, Dan broke our hearts. We have to give major kudos to Penn for this episode because he was phenomenal. Seriously, the man is at his best when he's opposite Leighton. Still, Dan wasn't done making us love him yet. When a distraught Blair says she just wants to be happy, Dan literally leads her straight to her happiness: Chuck. Yes, Dan sacrificed his happiness for Blair's. Unrequited love, thy name is Dan Humphrey.

Also shocking? How blind Blair is to Dan's feelings for her at this point. Several times during this episode, Dan made it pretty obvious how he felt about her and Blair remained completely oblivious. Is she choosing to ignore the signs at this point or is she so wrapped up in her Chuck-Louis drama that she's too distracted to notice? The mind reels...

5. Jack Attack Is Back! Um, we have no idea what the hell was going in in that scene at the end where Jack Bass (Desmond Harrington) calls Diana Payne (Elizabeth Hurley) to let her know about the accident. We just know that Uncle Jack always brings the drama and fun, so we give that plot twist a "Wheeee!" rating.

What did you think of Gossip Girl's fall finale? What was the most shocking moment for you? What do you think Diana and Jack are up to? Did Tripp try to get rid of Nate? Sound off in the comments!

It seems almost disrespectful, given how last night’s Gossip Girl ep ended, to call these OMG moments. Let’s spell it out and call them “Oh my God,” moments, as in: “Oh my God, we’ll live just and virtuous lives and stop saying Serena has hair like a circus horse if you’ll please just let Chuck live.”

However you want to name them, the Season 5, Episode 10: "Riding in Town Cars With Boys" fall finale certainly had its share of twists and turns. Here are our top five.

5. Ivy admits the truth to Rufus
At this point, Ivy (Kaylee DeFer) has spun such a complicated web of lies — we’re not sure anyone will believe her even when she does come clean. Then again, skipping town should help convince people she’s a con artist. Why don’t you try that, I?

4. Dan helps Chuck
We’re a little disappointed that Dair seems to have withered on the vine. But at least Dan’s (Penn Badgley) selflessness brought Chuck (Ed Westwick) and Blair (Leighton Meester) back together! And Dan can probably write a screenplay about it or something. [And then not give the movie rights to Serena (Blake Lively).]

3. Diana returns
What is Diana’s (Elizabeth Hurley) connection to the Basses? How exactly does she know Jack Bass? Who is this “us” she speaks of? And as she been driving around in that limo looking pensive for weeks? Why do we have to wait until 2012 to find out?

2. Blair chooses Chuck
The moment we’ve all been waiting for. Blair gives up princess-hood to be queen of Chuck’s heart. And in the back of a limo, no less. If only their bliss had lasted...

1. Chuck and Blair’s car crash
Blair may have decided against the royal route, but the paps are still determined to see her go the way of Princess Di — and did Max and Trip help them along? And if so, why? Trip we get, but what does Max have to gain from trying to kill Nate?

Whatever the reason, Chuck’s life now hangs in the balance. Don’t do it, Gossip Girl writers! Think of Monkey.

Promo For Gossip Girl Season 5, Episode 11: Will Chuck Survive? — A Frame By Frame Analysis!

The maaadness that ensued during last night’s mid-season finale ep of GG was more than we could take (!!!), and we’re more anxious than ever before for the return in January ― turns out those squirrely producers were right with that “biggest cliffhanger ever” business! And by the look of the preview for the January 16 episode it looks like a heck of a lot will be happening before that 100th episode wedding on January 30! Seriously, whoa!

Let’s ponder the preview clip play-by-play-style for a look at what’s to come...

Scene #1
Moody music sets in as Chuck and Blair are wheeled into the hospital on gurneys (presumably in flashback-mode, as we’ve already heard from Lily of their conditions in last night’s ep). Be forewarned, pals, there’s blood involved... and neck braces... and, hold on... we’re tearing up all over again!

Scene #2
Dan and Serena walk through the foyer of Casa de Waldorf, arm-in-arm and dressed in dark colors. On their way to the hospital in designer duds? Moments like these are the ones in which we’d be pulling out the sweats... Just sayin’, S ― heels don’t have to be your go-to in times of personal crises!

Scenes #3 & 4
Flashes of Louis and Chuck. Louis looks mopey (SURPRISE) and Chuck looks delightfully Chuck-y... UNTIL HIS IMAGE VANISHES. Foreshadowing? We’re gonna make a mark in the “REFUSE TO BELIEVE IT” column. Denial is our friend.

Scene #5
Grab the tissues!! S breaks the news to B about Chuck. “He lost a lot of blood,” she says as B cries by her side. Good news for Blair, at least, as she looks up and alert. Yes, S is still in her party dress. (Seriously, woman, that big bow can’t be comfortable. Send somebody home for a change of clothes. Stat. You may be here awhile.)

Scene #6
Nate stands (grief-stricken?) at the Spectator offices. Maybe he’s gotten an update on Chuck... or maybe this will have something to do with the take down of Gossip Girl? Whatever, Nate’s face actually emoting is a strange sight, so we’ll take it! (We kid, we kid!)

Scene #7
Blair and Dan walk up the steps of what looks like... a church?

Scene #8
Top 5 Things We Never Need to See AGAIN: Chuck Bass’ face covered in blood. Heartbreaking, this is! This accident didn’t even look so bad at the scene?! Wear your seat belts, kids, is all we have to say about this. (Wait, no, we also have this to say: CHUCK BASS CAN’T BE DEAD. Right? RIGHT? Initiating group hug...)

Scene #9
Blair looks on in horror as docs work on Chuck.

Scene #10
Blair kneels in the chapel at the church and prays for God to “let him live” while the tears roll. Is she praying for JUST Chuck, or might she be praying for her unborn child as well? With all this worry over Master Bass, we lost sight of B’s little babe. (But, then again, she probably wouldn’t be up and around if the royal spawn’s health were still in danger, right?) At any rate, naturally, we can only see B’s tears... but we’re weeping like schoolgirls on the other side of this screen...

Scene #11
Chuck presumably in a coma in the hospital. Tubes up his nose, head all wrapped up, eyes closed. Ughhhhhhhh.

In other words... Royal wedding? WHAT ROYAL WEDDING? In the space between last night’s ep and now, we may have totally lost all interest in the would-be nuptials. When Chuck Bass’ life is at stake, NOTHING ELSE MATTERS, amirite?

Gossip Girl Review: Now That’s How It’s Done

Monday night’s episode of Gossip Girl – the midseason finale – reminded me why I love this show so freaking much. It had drama! It had romance! It had schemes! And it had a set of characters that came together – with overlapping stories that just worked. Warning – very long summary ahead.
So Charlie/Ivy (the internet recently dubbed her ChIvy, which I love) is having a party in her honor, hosted by Lily. Max, her ex, who is eager to out her as a fraud, is still harassing her. ChIvy begs him to leave her alone, saying that this family is like her real family now, but Max is bitter and he goes to Nate, hoping to sell his story. Nate turns him away, though, trusting ChIvy’s word.
Nate is excited because his grandfather has invited him on an exclusive trip to show how proud of Nate he is. Frustrated by no longer being the Golden Child, Nate’s cousin, Tripp, tells Nate that their grandfather was behind Maureen (Tripp’s wife) faking an affair for media attention. Nate confronts his grandfather and realizes that he was only given the job as head of the paper because his grandfather owns it. Nate is frustrated and turns down his grandfather’s invitation.
Meanwhile, Max approaches Tripp and tries to make a bargain with him, saying he has a way they can both get what they want.
Back at the van der Woodsens’, Dan tells Serena that Inside is going into a second printing, and the publisher has asked him to write a new afterward, but he has writer’s block and can’t figure out what to write. Serena tells him he should write about how the book has changed everyone – Chuck went to therapy, Nate became a strong businessman, etc. Though Serena and Dan can’t figure out how they’ve changed. Dan tells Serena to read old Gossip Girl blasts to figure out exactly what it is she needs to change about herself. She does, and what she realizes is that Dan is one of the only good guys she has ever dated in a series of terrible relationships.
It’s bad timing, though, because Rufus has just suggested to Dan that he tell Blair how he feels. Sure, she’s getting married, but at least this way she’ll know and Dan won’t have any regrets. So Dan calls Blair, who has been locked away in her apartment, hiding from the paparazzi that are eager to spread word that the wedding to Prince Louis might be off. She leaps at the chance to go see Dan in Brooklyn while she figures out what she wants to do about her situation with Louis.
Blair is feeling very torn at the moment. Chuck has finally become the man she wants him to be, but Louis is the father of her child. After sending Dan to get food, she calls Chuck and asks him what she should do and whether he could ever love another man’s child. In a beautiful, painful scene, Chuck tells her to go with Louis, though he is obviously pained by doing so, and Blair is devastated. When Dan returns, she tells him she will have to be with Louis, but Dan tells her he has an alternative.
Meanwhile, Serena is frustrated and jealous that Dan is making his move on Blair because she has decided that she loves him again. She goes to Louis’s hotel and tells him where Blair is. At the same time, Lily and Chuck have a conversation about unconditional love, and Chuck realizes he made a mistake by turning Blair away when he is still in love with her. Louis and Chuck both arrive at Dan’s place to find it empty, and then separate to go looking for Blair.
Dan has taken Blair to a secret room at ChIvy’s party. Chuck arrives and approaches Dan, saying he’s tired of playing hide-and-seek and asking why Dan called him there. Dan opens the door to where Blair is hidden and Chuck enters. Serena sees this and asks Dan what he has done. Dan tells her that he realized the best thing for Blair was to reunite her and Chuck, and he loves her enough to do that. Serena feels like a jerk for helping Louis – and rightly so! – and sees again just what kind of guy Dan is.

Outside the party, Nate runs into Max who is trying to get inside. Nate warns ChIvy, who is nervous about Max outing her secret. Nate tells her that if the paparazzi swarm the place looking for Blair, the party might get closed down early. So ChIvy sends out a Gossip Girl blast (the first tip Gossip Girl has gotten in weeks) about Chuck and Blair being at the party together.
Inside the other room, Chuck tells Blair he wants to be with her and he’ll love her child just as much as he loves her – regardless of the paternity. Nate comes in to warn them they should leave, and they all run out to their cars. Nate jumps in one, deciding to still go with his grandfather on the trip, and Chuck and Blair hop in the other, determined to tell Louis tonight that the wedding is off.
And this is when the show gets seriously, seriously intense.
Max calls ChIvy and says he’s done harassing her and that he got what he wanted, whatever that means. On the street, paparazzi on motorcycles are speeding around Chuck and Blair’s car while, inside, they rekindle their relationship and make plans to stay together and raise Blair’s baby. Behind them, Nate and his driver watch nervously as the motorcycles get more and more aggressive. When Nate’s driver realizes he’s taking him to the airport, he’s confused at first, saying he thought they were going to the Upper East Side – indicating that Chuck and Blair are in Nate’s car.
Then, the motorcycles cause an accident on the road. They blame it on paparazzi, but I actually think it was an attempt on Nate’s life – only time will tell. Chuck and Blair are rushed to the hospital where family and friends soon arrive. ChIvy, full of guilt for releasing the blast, outs herself to Rufus and then leaves the hospital and maybe even New York. Nate, Dan and Serena decide that they will take out Gossip Girl for good after this. And the doctor’s report that Blair is awake, but Chuck . . .
Well, they never say for sure, but apparently it’s not good.
And then there’s Diana, who gets a call from Chuck’s evil uncle Jack. WTF are they up to???
Phew! That was a long summary. But it almost had to be because every plot point was so tangled together – just as they should be! Last week, I was frustrated by the disconnect between characters, but this week’s episode really brought it! The ending even made me tear up a little bit. This just goes to show that Gossip Girl can really be top notch, and I’m hoping the rest of the season will be this good!
But if Chuck wakes up from the coma with amnesia, I’m going to be pissed. Just a warning.
The next episode isn’t until January, but I have high hopes that the rest of this season is going to blow us away. Let’s cross our fingers!
Best Storyline: Chuck and Blair’s reunion, of course!
Worst Storyline: None this week. They were all pretty excellent.
Want to See More Of: Chuck. Please don’t let him be unconscious too long!
Want to See Less Of: Prince Louis
Season 5, Episode 10: Riding in Town Cars with Boys (original air date December 5, 2011)
Gossip Girl airs Monday nights at 8/7c on The CW.

YEAR IN REVIEW 2011: TV'S BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENTS

Gossip Girl's Princely Behavior
It's not that we expected Prince Louis to be a long-term contender for the love of Blair Waldorf, but we certainly didn't expect him to turn into an insufferable jerk who spent the entire first half of the season breaking up and making up with Blair. Can we get off this royal merry-go-round?

Year in Review 2011: Most Memorable TV Moments

Gossip Girl: Bar Mitzvah Crashing
Blair was nearly ready to settle down with her prince charming when her once (and future) beloved bad boy Chuck bass took her to crash a bar mitzvah. Apparently, getting picked up in chairs and tossed around turned the Upper East Side princess on, and the two had sex in a room near the party, to the squeals of shippers everywhere.

He's Chuck Bass: See His Sexiest Smolders

Chuck Bass may be a fan of the bow tie and other formal wear accouterments, but the only accessory he really needs is his smolder. Gossip Girl's reformed bad boy has spent the last several seasons working on his expressions, whether it's a brow furrow, a scowl, or a sultry smirk. To celebrate the man who loves declaring exactly who he is, here are the 50 best "I'm Chuck Bass" smolders.
