Parallel: In S2, Gossip Girl labeled Blair "weakling" and Dan "the ultimate insider." Their labels are the opposite of how they see themselves (the queen and the outsider), but they're true. In 4x07, Dan and Blair's labels are paralleled. Dan embarrasses Blair with a video of her out of control and singing "Stand By Your Man" (weakling!), and Dan is cut down by his father for becoming just like the rest of the UESers (insider!).

BLAIR: You know how ashamed I am of that video, of "Stand By Your Man!"

NATE: This is about you getting revenge. And you went behind my back to get it.
DAN: I know, Nate, but come on. They deserve what they get. I'm not sorry.
RUFUS: No, I'm the one who's sorry. I'm sorry you've become one of them.

BLAIR: I'm a failure at twenty.
DAN: It was Blair's twentieth birthday party, and I'm still acting like an eighth grader.

BLAIR: What I want is to be a powerful woman. But whenever Chuck's around, I just feel like a weak little girl.
ELEANOR: You don't have to lose the girl to be a woman. Just — you need to think maybe about how many people are going to be around the next time you let her out.

DAN: So I wrecked Blair's birthday. I betrayed Nate. I disappointed my dad. And as the icing on the cake, I pretty much ruined his and Lily's anniversary. [...] Is it possible the Upper East Side is contagious?

The irony is that these parts of Blair and Dan's characterization, however much they might make them uncomfortable, are what make a relationship between them possible. If Dan hadn't become an insider over the past four seasons, he wouldn't be able to keep up with Blair. S1!Dan couldn't have made a success of dating Blair or being Blair's friend, but I think S4!Dan could. And Dan has always been drawn to Blair's vulnerability, to the the chinks in her Queen B armor. Which is understandable because Queen B tends to treat Dan like he's invisible ("We don't know each other here") or a minion ("Your loyalty has been rewarded") and banish his sister and stuff. But the girl inside of Blair that Eleanor is talking about? That's the girl Dan could fall for. :)
