Gossip Girl Boss on Chuck's 'Struggle,' Serena's 'Anxiety, 'Blair's 'Denial' Over Dan, and More!
Get out your cell phones for a very important blast: Gossip Girl is back this Monday (The CW, 8/7c), and there’s much ado on the Upper East Side. TVLine chatted with executive producer Josh Safran about what’s in store as the show heads into a “lighter” spring.
TVLINE | Blair and Chuck reunited in the fall finale, but Blair is getting married to Louis in the 100th episode. What’s changed?
I wouldn’t say necessarily that Blair is getting married to Louis in the 100th episode, but there definitely is an event scheduled. What happens at that event is TBD. You’re going to find out [Monday] what has happened. There’s a significant time jump between Episodes 10 and 11. A lot of the episode is told in flashback as to what really happened. You’ll definitely learn why they’ve gone from professing their future plans to each other in the back of the limo to Blair walking down the aisle with Louis. … All I can say is more so than ever, [Monday's] episode very much takes place from Chuck and Blair’s point of view.
TVLINE | Chuck’s had a lot of growth this season. Is that something that’s going to stick or might he go back to his bad ways?
The decision to continue to grow and not regress becomes more of a struggle for Chuck in upcoming episodes.
TVLINE | The season started off light and fun with the gang in L.A., and it’s gotten darker as it’s gone on. Is that going to continue?
It will definitely lighten up again, but it was a conscious choice to take it darker. Going from the summeryness of L.A. to the winteryness of New York was very much a conscious choice on our part. As we move back towards spring again, the show will get lighter as well. That is not to say though that there won’t be some shocking darkness around the corner.
TVLINE | What’s going on with Serena and Blair’s friendship, particularly in the 100th episode?
They are very, very much best friends, totally by each other’s sides. That episode is very much about their friendship, and Serena being Blair’s maid of honor. It’s got some of my favorite Serena and Blair moments of the season, if not ever. There’s a really, really cute scene with the two of them on the morning of the wedding, which I think is really going to make fans happy.
TVLINE | The musical dream sequence from Episode 100 leaked. What’s going on with Serena that she has this sort of dream?
In years past, she’s jumped into relationships. As she’s gotten older and wiser, she thought she’s not necessarily jumping into them and then realizes afterward that she still has. This year, there’s very much a conscious choice on her part to be like, “You know what? I’m going to work on myself, and I’m not going to have a relationship.” And she has not had one all year. Because of that, because Serena so often and early on was always paired with somebody and shared her life with somebody… To actually have a life on her own, some anxiety and neurosis might slip in. She’s dealing with those and growing from them. If anything, the dream sequence maybe shows where she’s at a little bit.
TVLINE | There have been hints that she’s not over Dan. Is that a relationship that’s going to be highlighted in the second half of the season?
I wouldn’t say it’s going to be highlighted, but I definitely do think Episode 10 started Serena on a path to look at her past, especially as it concerns her relationships and what they’ve actually meant to her. That takes her into some surprising directions. Maybe there is a little bit, for her, of revisiting the past.
TVLINE | Everyone seems to know Dan is hung up on Blair, except for Blair. Will she ever be clued in?
The question of whether or not she’s in denial and knows it or whether she truly doesn’t see it will be answered in upcoming episodes.
TVLINE | Could she ever see him in a romantic way?
I will leave that to Blair to answer. I don’t want to answer for her. One thing I will say though about the previous question is that when you said everyone seems to know it but Blair, I think some other people might be in denial about it as well.
TVLINE | Anyone in particular?
I wonder if Serena is fully aware.
TVLINE | Where is the Ivy story headed? And will, “Who’s the real Charlie?” be more of a focus?
The Ivy story is still continuing. She’s definitely between a rock and a hard place. It’s always tough when you have wanted people to believe your lie for so long that when you finally want out of it, they don’t believe you. It’s definitely a tricky place for her to be in. The story takes some surprising turns. As for the real Charlie, as of now, we do know that she is out there. Whether or not we’re going to meet her in the future, I can’t say.

Если она подозревает о "чуЙствах", то почему не подает виду? Послала б жОниха, любовь всей своей жизни и ответила молодому человеку. А то он уже черт знает сколько времени приклееный ходит, а она пользуется его услугами. БеЗвозмЭзднО. Выходит, ее это просто не волнует?
Если не подозревает, то ей, опять же, настолько все равно?
Возникает вопрос. Если самой БУ эта инфа и чуйства не нужны...чего тянули резину столько времени?
К слову, Серену частенько упоминают. Делена потихоньку возрождается?

А Вы заметили как Сафран ветьевато вывернулся,- не хочет до последнего этот кончик обрубать  вроде и все уже,а нет все равно городит на ровном месте

Я ставлю на то, что вся эта чушь закончится после 5.18.
Тогда начинается 3я часть сезона, по его словам, а там др. СЛ.

Никогда не поверю, что барышня не почувствует когда МЧ неравнодушен.
Вон чувства Басса она сразу прочувствовала и ничего ей не помешало. А все потому, что ей это было ИНТЕРЕСНО.
Сравнивают 5.01 и 2.01 "3 слова, 8 букв" - так там присутсвует большая разница между эпизодами. И очень существенная разница. В 2.01 она ХОТЕЛА услышать эти слова, в 5.01 же ей глубоко наплевать.
В этом случае, если и есть отрицание, то не ее собственных чувств, а отказ/отрицание в принятии ЕГО чувств.

Закончат таким же большим пшиком, как и в прошлом году. Вероятнее всего все плавно перейдет в историю эС/Би и Дерену. Это с самого начала было о них, а после интервью Сафрана, данное направление стало более четким.

повторюсь...там скорее идет речь об отношениях эС и Би, с учетом возрождающихся чувств к ДХ и влюбленности ДХ в БУ.

для того чтобы барЫшня почувствовала,ей изначально должно быть хоть немного не все равно и опять же приглядываться надо, а когда она ходит чай в Бруклин пить ей не когда приглядываться она про свои проблемы рассказывает это во первых
а во вторых БУ у нас хоть девушка и чувствительная к подобным вибрациям ей вот сейчас объективно не до этого внимательно вглядываются в пространство и пытаются увидеть то, чего нет девушки одинокие а у нашей БУ вон аж целых два проблемных кавалера так еще и беби
так что не-а - не знает БУ сюрприз для девушки будет,примерно как тогда, когда она пришла в университете в свою комнату а там Хамфри с Джорджиной посередине секса - вот наверное примерно такое лицо у нее будет

я кстати после этого его спойлера подумала - а может для того эта линия и задумывалась? Да я наивная и все еще верю что у сценаристов есть хоть какой-то план
Ну вот смотрите, - отношения С и Б стали почти семейными живут вместе "ванну делят" как сказал Сафран линия СБ всегда было основной в сериале,теперь ее почти нет,с конца 4го нет. может этот псевдо треугольник и станет их очередной проверкой?

т.е. объект должен ее интересовать. Она должна хотеть знать об отношении объекта к своей персоне.

Ты сама сказала проблемных. Так почему не обратить внимание на НЕпроблемного??
Так нет же. Ее устраивает лишь такое положение вещей: 2 кавалера и друг-подушка для слез. И менять эту концепцию она не намерена.
По поводу 2х проблемных кавалеров. Вообще-то, он у нее один. И это Луи. Второй возник по ее собственному желанию. Чак полностью вышел из игры и отошел в сторону. А ее очень интересовало, а не хочет ли Чак разрушить ее сказку. Нет ли скрытых мотивов. В итоге, она рыла, выясняла, провоцировала. Она была заинтересована в наличии этого второго проблемного кавалера в своей жизни. Вон как расстроилась из-за кольца, которое теперь в магазине. И в итоге завела таки его. Басс снова в игре. Он всегда там был косвенно, но сейчас главное действующее лицо. И после ее отступления в 5.11 и слов Эдика о том, что он будет добиваться, можно предположить, что при всем желании держатся от него подальше, она таки будет давать повод. Удобно преследовать барышню, которая хочет, чтобы ее преследовали.
Не знаю, осознанно или нет, но БУ нехило манипулирует всеми 3мя мужиками.

эта линия скорее даже для эС задумывалась.
Серена никогда особо не ценила их отношения с ДХ и была очень в себе уверена. Она была единственной и неповторимой в жизни ДХ. А тут неожиданность: она не муза, бегают не за ней. И фраза Хамфри в 5.04 "Мир не крутится вокруг тебя" по мозгу ударила капитально.
Она научится ценить и дорожить тем, что у нее есть/было.
Весь этот замут с БАН для нее лично, как персонажа.
Не для СВ. А для Дерены. Дерена тоже не является примером здоровых отношений и данный урок будет на пользу паре, т.к. отношения станут равноценными.

И все будет держаться на чьих-то домыслах и подозрениях.
Идет расчет на реакцию Серены и Чака на столь близкую ДРУЖБУ.
Но там не в треугольнике дело, повторюсь...Треугольник - это результат...ответвление от общей схемы.

| If you had any doubts GOSSIP GIRL’s Chuck Bass would survive those injuries he got in the midseason finale car crash, his portrayer, Ed Westwick, has some good news for you: “I’m alive!”
And thanks to some time jumping in tonight’s brand new episode, fans won’t have to see Chuck in terrible shape for long…at least not physically.
“He’s fine,” Westwick said. “Emotionally, probably not, but he never is. Physically, fine.”
Ah, the emotional aspect. Last we saw Chuck and Blair, they had decided to give their relationship another shot. Now? Things have changed. When I pressed Westwick for details, he was mum on why the duo were suddenly on the outs again.
“I can’t tell you that!” he exclaimed. “I can’t tell you nothing! I’d lose my job!”
And while Westwick was coy about that, he was much more willing to say fans of “Chair” shouldn’t give up on their couple.
“You got to have hope, right?” Westwick noted. “We’ve been in it so long now…just to give up? We can’t just give up!”
However, Chuck does have some unexpected competition for Blair’s heart, thanks to Dan’s recent-ish feelings for her. Westwick said Chuck certainly didn’t see that particular obstacle coming.
“It’s an interesting one,” he said. “I guess stranger things have happened. Definitely in our show.”
Does that mean Chuck has what it takes to ultimately be the man for Blair, versus the seemingly more “together” Dan?
“An underdog is an underdog, but you can never underestimate him,” Westwick noted. “He’s proved himself quite a worthy opponent.”
Perhaps what happens in the upcoming 100th episode will change things even further.
“I’m going to be at [Blair and Louis'] wedding, trying to get my girl,” Westwick teased. “We’ll see what happens.”

ED WESTWICK ON THE FUTURE & END OF GOSSIP GIRL
On Thursday, I sat down with Ed Westwick following his participation in The CW's Bad-Ass Boy TCA panel, meaning I've officially interviewed every single actor from Gossip Girl. And while they've all been lovely, I can officially say that out of the entire cast, Ed is the most unlike his character.
Don't get me wrong, he's as charismatic as Chuck Bass but there is a lightness to Ed's playful nature that stands in such stark contrast to his character that I was momentarily thrown as he laughed more in one minute than Chuck has in five seasons. But I guess that's why they call it acting!
During our chat, I found his ability to dole out an unexpected metaphor as delightfully jarring as his penchant for giggling and his openness about the pros and cons of fame utterly refreshing. Check out our chat below to find out what's coming up on Gossip Girl and how Dan is like Mitt Romney.
Insider.com: You just wrapped up a Bad-Ass Boys of The CW panel -- do you still see Chuck like that?
Ed Westwick: It's kind of one-dimensional. Also, what are they implying? Is The CW saying I'm bad? The character is bad? Both? [laughs] I can't box Chuck as a bad boy any more – he was very much in the beginning because he was a brat and got up to some shocking activities, with date rape and all sorts of precarious activities. But I don't believe that any more. At the moment, he's a man on a mission to get the love of his life. Granted, there will be a few covert operations along the way, which are bound to have deviousness involved. So there's that, but I think after five years, we've showed depth. Or at least I hope I have [laughs].
Insider: Tonight's episode features Chuck in a coma -- is that the ideal situation for an actor?
Ed: I think I fell asleep, which was perfect with our long days. I loved that scene in the back of the limo with Leighton [Meester, who plays Blair]. It was so Diana & Dodi -- which is why I worried for a second I worried they might kill me. But, no [laughs]. I wake up, I survive, I'm back.
Insider: Fans are as invested in Chuck and Blair today as they were in season one. Does their longevity as a couple surprise you?
Ed: It does, but you've seen it before on countless shows. Fans like to go down that road with a couple. Love and relationships are such an important part of our lives, it's nice to see one played out in fiction. I think it's great and I hope we can keep giving them something that they want.
Insider: This year, Louis was brought into the action, but for fans, the true love triangle has been between Chuck, Blair and Dan. Did you see that coming?
Ed: It's been a little out of left field. Penn Badgley's cute, so I get it [laughs]. It's an interesting dynamic because that's a complete 180 from what she likes about Chuck. The whole situation is infuriating for Chuck because he just wants to shake her and say "What are you thinking?!?!" But he can't. It's not his style. He's got to be cool, calm and meticulous about his approach. I don't know which way it’s going to go – and that's the thing. We've got one more year on our contracts, which will see the show out, and I'm as invested in the relationship as well. I want to know how it ends.
Insider: The idea of soulmates has been thrown around a lot with Chuck and Blair. Is that how you see them?
Ed: Yes, that's what I feel. But I think Chuck needs to get out of the house because I would not behave in this way whatsoever [laughs]. I would tell him, "There are other people, sort yourself out – you have a lot going for yourself. You're a good-looking guy with a lot of money, there are other women out there." I mean, Blair is hard work. But .. she's really good in the sack! [laughs]
Insider: What has been your favorite part of playing this character?
Ed: The whole thing has been a dream role. A dream to have the success we've had. Clothes that I wouldn't normally be exposed to – fashion wasn't in my mind in the beginning. I've loved the development of his journey – I've played every emotion out there and that's great as an actor. And as a young actor, it's even greater because I've been able to add so much to my repertoire.
Insider: Has there been anything you haven't loved about playing this character?
Ed: For lack of a better word, the fame at such a young age has been a weird thing. Very weird. Look, I wouldn't change it for a thing. I've had a blast, as I'm sure you know [laughs]. But it is a weird thing at times. It's offered me an insight into humanity. The culture we live in, in this day and age. Because you see someone on TV, they're no longer a person – they're just an object you want a piece of. It's very interesting. I'm not sour or bitter about it, but I find it intriguing.
Insider: What about the dog? Is it true that you should never work with children or animals?
Ed: Oh god ... on that note [laughs]. It's a lovely dog, it's just a hassle. Honestly, I would have preferred the monkey. That's what it was supposed to be in the book. Maybe they didn't want to pay for the exotic animal license.
Insider: Right, or maybe the writers figured there's nowhere for Dan to buy a monkey on the UWS!
Ed: Right! "Where did he get that monkey?!?" There's Jenny, she changed!
Insider: Looking ahead, you have Blair's wedding and the show's 100th episode. What are you excited for fans to see that's coming up?
Ed: First of all, 100 episodes is such an achievement -- I almost can't believe we got here. I'm excited for fans to see the wedding – it's huge and amazing. You've never seen a more gorgeous bride than Blair. She's stunning. There's a lot going on in terms of this whole Blair & Dan thing – this is where I feel Chuck is losing the battle. There's a few approaches and he keeps shooting blanks. I don't know if he's going to make a late surge. It's kind of like the Republican nomination – I think Dan is Mitt Romney. Chuck is Santorum -- which is better than being Rick Perry.
Gossip Girl airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on The CW.

Вот поэтому то сериал и превратился в полную **** Я не знаю и третий с первой половиной четвертого сезона были не так хороши как предыдущие два, но там были хоть КАКИЕ-ТО линии у ЧБ (если учитывать что первый сезон только раскручивался и был зажигательным+ там началось ЧБ;второй только на их отношениях держался и был нереально крут!) ...и поэтому я с достаточной долей внимания смотрела. Когда же со второй половины четвертого сезона - ЧБ практически не пересекаются в сериале...интересно а с чего же это рэйтинги падают? Потому что сериал смотрят ради них ОДНИХ почти все...как же меня бесит дебилизм сценаристов!
