Gossip Girl's Ed Westwick Discusses Chuck's 'Obsession' With Blair and Possibly 'Tragic' Fate

When The CW’s Gossip Girl returns this Monday at 8/7c, Chuck and Blair’s happy reunion will be put on hold. So, what happened after the pair seemingly sealed their future together in the fall finale? Will it drive Chuck back to his old ways? And should he be worried about Blair’s new confidant, Dan? TVLine went to Ed Westwick for the answers to those questions and others!

TVLINE | Obviously Chuck’s not dead. But is he carrying any sort of emotional or physical scars from what happened?

I think so. I don’t see how you can’t after anything as traumatic as that. Not just that – the amount the guy’s been through [over] the course of the show has just been devastating. You hear stories sometimes on TV shows and these people are giving accounts of their lives and all the travesties that they’ve encountered, troubles they’ve encountered. I think Chuck is one of those characters. If it was real life, he could write a book. There’s going to be some emotional and some physical wounds, I’m sure. The emotional are probably going to be a lot more [heavy] than the physical.

TVLINE | Is this a catalyst for him? He’s already had a lot of change this season, but could there be even more?

When [the show] picks up, he wants to be with Blair, and he’s pursuing Blair. That’s his obsession, his goal. It’s the only thing that’s keeping him [going]. I think he attaches himself to the idea of her so much, the idea of them so much, that it becomes unhealthy. So it’s going to be interesting.

TVLINE | In the mid-season finale, Blair and Chuck reunited, but we know that the 100th episode is the big wedding to Louis. What happened?

All will be revealed, but yeah, the wedding is going to take place. What happens [that day], I can’t say, but it’s going to be an amazing spectacle. Leighton [Meester] looks fantastic in the wedding dress.

TVLINE | Did something just change for her, but not for Chuck?

I don’t think things changed; I think some things got in the way for her.

TVLINE | There’s a picture of Chuck and Georgina from the 100th episode. Is there some fun storyline with the two of you?

There is. There’s a fun storyline…. She’s doing what Georgina does best, and she’s effing stuff up for everybody.

TVLINE | Are you allowed to say whether Chuck’s invited to this wedding?

Oh, yes, I’m invited.

TVLINE | One of the interesting things that took me by surprise was Chuck and Dan’s friendship.

That was definitely surprising for me. It was a reluctant friendship. That’s been interesting to explore. It’s demonstrated the heart of Dan, at the base, what Dan is. He’s a good, honest guy who recognizes when someone’s just a trainwreck, which Chuck has always been. So it’s been good, and it’s been interesting to work with Penn [Badgley] because I’ve rarely worked with him for like four years, and me and Penn are great friends. So it’s been good working with him, as well.

TVLINE | Chuck seems pretty cool about Dan’s feelings for Blair. Do you think that’s an accurate description?

Yeah, I don’t think he sees him as a threat. But I think that’s very naïve, which is strange for Chuck because he’s been through so much. You would have thought he’d be a better judge of character, but unfortunately in this show, people don’t seem to learn much. [Laughs]

TVLINE | Jack Bass is coming back. What does this mean for Chuck and his family drama?

I don’t know, because we haven’t got the scripts, but I love working with Desmond [Harrington]. He brings such a great edge. He’s perfect in that role. The stuff between Chuck and Jack is perfect because it’s like “the evil twin”. So again, it’s going to be something which I’m very excited to get started on. I’m looking forward to going off on a different angle. This Blair thing’s been so much, and it’s established – he wants her back.

TVLINE | It seems like Jack and Diana might be in cohoots, so I want to float a theory by you: Diana is related to Chuck in some way.

A lot of people are floating that theory, and it’s an understandable one — but who knows?

TVLINE | Is there a specific ending that you would like to see for Chuck?

I’ve racked my brain about it a million times. I have this vision of him and Blair getting together. He’s on his way to marry her or meet her and, all of a sudden, he gets killed in a car crash or something like that. [Laughs]

TVLINE | That’s tragic.

Or we were brainstorming this one idea earlier that he has to go on the run, wanted by Interpol. He becomes like Jason Bourne.

TVLINE | Those are both very dark endings.

He’s a tragic character. I don’t see any light ending for him. If he has a light ending, it won’t fit. It should be a tragic ending. Not necessarily tragic that he dies, but just… something. I think what we like about him is watching him fall apart.

TVLINE | Do you think he’s tragic romantically, as well?

Oh, absolutely. I think that’s on the wall. The whole Blair thing is tragic in every way. When you want to be with someone [and] you know you should be with them but [there's] always external factors, that’s tragic.

Gossip Girl's Ed Westwick Professes He's "Madly in Love" With Leighton Meester

Chuck and Blair fans, get ready to implode.

I just sat down with the talented and charismatic Ed Westwick, and the Gossip Girl bad boy dropped so much Chuck and Blair goodness, you probably should have a defibrillator standing by. Particularly when he starts talking about his feelings for Leighton, how long he'll stay on the series, and ripping his romantic rival apart.

Ed Is "Madly in Love": When asked how Ed has perfected that Chuck-Blair chemistry fans love so much, he tells me, "I'm madly in love with Leighton, so that's what helps on my behalf, maybe so much that she doesn't even have to be in love with me. I love enough, she's mine. I'm incredibly close with her, she's a lovely girl. I think she was 20 and I was 19 when we started the show and it's such a kind of development stage of young adulthood. And to grow up on the show and to go through that together, you know you're going to have a very strong bond. But she is a remarkable talent and there is just sometimes you can't put things into words with connections or sparks or when you're acting with someone. We've got the right pairing, I guess."

Ahem, you hear that Prince Louis? Speaking of...

Ed Is Prepared to Rip Louis Apart: Yes, there is a Blair-Louis wedding planned for the 100th episode, and Ed teases that he's fine with tackling the groom. "We can do that...Or [Louis] runs and he just trips when he's running down the aisle and it's just the most embarrassing moment of all time, and then he's going to go."

The 100th Episode Is All About Chuck and Blair...Sorta: "We have the royal wedding happening between Blair and Louis, and I think the big thing is will they, wont they. Everybody knows how much my character is in love with Blair and how much Blair is in love with Chuck but is she in love with him enough to, you know, what decision will she make? That's a big thing for that episode." Ed also promises "You will cry. There will be tears."

Ed Says They "Might Do One More Year" of the Show: When asked how much Chuck Bass Ed has in him, Ed replies thoughtfully: "I have a bit left in me, it's an exhausting character because it is well for the reasons that have been so apparent throughout the whole of the show, he's not platonic in any way. So, I've got a bit, but you know, we might do one more year, we might. I don't know what's going to happen I don't make the decisions really, I am a mere player. But, look I love it, I live in New York. I get to do the show. I get to do a job which is brilliant and I am so so happy and so blessed and just take it as it comes. I'm still young, I'm only 24 so it's all good."

Ed Is Coming to Twitter! After pleading with him for a good five minutes (I take your fan requests seriously, people!), and explaining what Twitter is all about, Ed agreed to try Twitter out for a week and see how it goes. His one concern: "How do people even know you are there? I don't think anyone would find me." Umm..Anyone have any thoughts on that!?

Elizabeth Hurley Set to Make Her Return to Gossip Girl!

The bitch is back!

We just off the phone with Gossip Girl executive producer Josh Safran, who, in addition to teasing the return of Jack Bass (Desmond Harrington) and Georgina Sparks (Michelle Trachtenberg), exclusively revealed to us that another familiar face (and troublemaker) will be returning to the show in the second half of season five: Diana Payne (Elizabeth Hurley)!

So what brings Diana Payne back to town? And what's up with her mysterious connection to the Bass family? Here's what Safran told us...

"I won't tease anything other than Elizabeth is coming back, so Diana will be returning in the second half of the season." So yeah, Safran couldn't tell us much, but we're extremely excited about Hurley's return to the show, especially because it will more than likely coincide with Harrington's return to the show as Uncle Jack Bass.

When asked if we'll learn more about Diana's connection to the Bass family, Safran would only tease, "That story is far from over."

Of the ever-unpredictable Jack's return, Safran says he'll be coming back as an ally for his nephew Chuck. "Jack changes every time he comes back. Sometimes he's super gross and other times he's reformed, and last time, he really was trying to help Chuck. When he returns this time, it's more along those lines of what we saw from him last year. He's still an unrepentant bad boy, but he's enjoying it a little bit more."

As for Georgina? Well, expect her to do what she does best: cause trouble "We love having Michelle and Georgina on the show. She's just a shot in the arm for every character," he says. "No matter where she turns, she's going to stir up trouble. This is the longest arc we've had her for since season one, and that was just really invigorating and fun. I really think the audience is going to love it. She really amps up everything to 360 degrees!"

‘Gossip Girl’ Scoop: Blair May NOT Be A Runaway Bride, Says EP Josh Safran

Much to the dismay of ‘Chair’ fans, Blair may go through with her royal wedding after all! HollywoodLife.com got the scoop exclusively from the show’s executive producer Josh Safran.

The return of Gossip Girl is right around the corner, which means we’re THAT much closer to the highly anticipated Jan. 30 wedding episode! Executive Producer Josh Safran, the mastermind behind the show, had a few minutes to catch up with HollywoodLife.com and help ease our anxiety — sort of.

We’ve been tortured all season long as Blair (Leighton Meester) has been preparing to walk down the aisle with the awful Prince Louis (Hugo Becker), but the paparazzi photos we saw of her on the streets in her wedding dress gave us hope — will Blair be a runaway bride?

“I don’t know if those photos are necessarily of her as a runaway bride, I will say that,” Josh told us. ”I also will say, yes, there is a wedding that is planned, but whatever happens at the end of that altar I won’t comment on.”

What Josh could tell us, however, is that all of the back-and-forth between Blair, Chuck, Louis and Dan (Penn Badgley) is about to come to an end!

“She will stop going back and forth well before the end of this season,” he told us.

This could is good news — assuming she chooses Chuck, of course.
Read on for our full interview with Josh…

HollywoodLife.com: At the end of the midseason finale, Charlie/Ivy (Kaylee Defer) left town. Will she return?

Josh Safran: It looked like she left, but whether she’s gone or not, it’s Gossip Girl. Ivy’s story continues.

HL: What about the real Charlie? Will we ever meet her?

JS: There was a clue this season that she existed in the playbill. I think that put to rest the rumor that there never was a real Charlie. I always loved that rumor; I thought it was really funny. At least we know there is a real Charlie out there, but whether or not we are going to need her is something we’re still talking about at this time. That’s not to say you won’t meet her…

HL: Let’s talk about Diana Payne (Elizabeth Hurley). Why is she out to get the real Gossip Girl?

JS: I will say that her reasoning for why she’s out to get Gossip Girl will be revealed this season.

HL: Some fans are theorizing that she’s actually Chuck’s mom. Can you say anything about that?

JS: I’m not going to comment on anything about her story line.

HL: Since we’re on the subject of the real Gossip Girl, do you know when we’ll actually find out who she is?

JS: That story is very much still continuing and that is a story that we very much have planned fully.

HL: And what about Blair’s friendship with Serena (Blake Lively)? Does Dan mess that up at all?

JS: What I will say is that Serena and Blair’s friendship is that I know some people feel like we didn’t service it fully in the first half of the season. But we believe they were very close — with the exception of episode five when they sort of had their arguments. But they live together, they share a bathroom, they’re really close friends, and that’s something we wanted to showcase even more coming up. People sort of felt like, ‘Wait, where have Serena and Blair gone?’ And in our mind, we were like, ‘It’s because they’re not having problems. They’re just happy friends. Hugging was sort of enough.’ In the wedding, Serena is very much by Blair’s side throughout that entire episode for instance. In our minds,, because because hey’re not having problems, we’re like, they’re friends. We haven’t necessarily showcased that as much as the fans would like. In our brains, we thought we had. We’re just making sure to hit that even harder.

HL: We hear there’s a new blonde in the UES. Who is she?

JS: She’s a new love interest for Nate [Chace Crawford] and she’s awesome. You will see her come in the few upcoming episodes.

OK, Gossip Girl fans — What are your thoughts on our interview with Josh? Which guy do you think Blair will choose? Are you excited for more Blair/Serena scenes? Drop us a comment with your hopes, predictions… and yes, even your fears.
— Nicole Karlis
