OMFG, you guys. After much unpleasant waiting, the new season of Gossip Girl is finally almost here, and it looks like it might be the most ridiculous one yet. It takes place at least partly in Los Angeles, to which Blair correctly refers as “a plastic surgery layover, not somewhere you live.” In the promo, we see Nate and Chuck being total playboys on some kind of yacht; Serena uttering the catchphrase “he’s Chuck Bass;” Nate fake-admitting to being “that guy from that movie;” Chuck acting as a stuntman; and Nate becoming Elizabeth Hurley‘s boy toy.
Notably absent from this promo are Vanessa and Jenny (R.I.P.), as well as the rest of the Humphrey/Van der Woodsen clan. So basically, only the most fun-to-watch characters get to go to L.A. This is obviously a huge improvement over seasons past, although I wouldn’t be surprised if they found some contrived way to get Dan and his six-pack out west for a bit, too. Of particular interest is the still featuring Dan and Blair; could their unlikely, screwball comedy-esque near-relationship continue into the show’s fifth season?? Dair fans everywhere are holding their breath. (All ten of them.)

Clint Eastwood’s ‘J. Edgar’ To Premiere At AFI Fest 2011
While it was previously reported that Clint Eastwood was unlikely to make any major festival appearances in the run up to the release of his latest effort “J. Edgar,” the director will now give it a splashy red carpet premiere at the AFI Fest a few days before it rolls out to multiplexes across the country.
Though it’s a bit more star oriented than film driven festivals like Venice, Toronto and New York, the AFI Fest is still a notable stop on the festival circuit, and Eastwood will get the opening night gala slot with “J. Edgar” set to screen on November 3rd. Penned by “Milk” screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, with Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role, the film is a decades-spanning look at the life of the controversial head of the FBI. An extensive cast that includes Armie Hammer, Naomi Watts, Ed Westwick, Damon Herriman, Judi Dench, Ken Howard, Jeffrey Donovan and Stephen Root round things out for what promises to be an intriguing ensemble piece.
Now, don’t get it twisted. The very late appearance on the festival slate has less to do with the quality of the movie, and more to do with Eastwood going down to the wire to get the film cut and finished—“J. Edgar” only started shooting at the end of February. That said, an appearance at AFI Fest means it won’t get quite the same press scrutiny as it would have if it premiered at Toronto, New York or London, which could mean a missed opportunity to build buzz. On the the one hand, if the flick is a dud, Warner Bros. won’t have to worry about advance bad press as the movie opens just days later.
“J. Edgar” will open on November 9th, and we’d guess we’ll be getting some kind of trailer soon. Will Clint shake up the Oscar race? Time will tell.

Blake Lively Makes the Best of Her Rainy Day Situation on Set
Gossip Girl was back filming on location in NYC today, and Blake Lively didn't let the rain dampen her mood. Blake kept warm in a pair of sweat pants and rain boots; however, when the cameras started rolling she slipped into a pair of lime green stilettos and ditched her baggy pants in order to show off her famously long legs. The new season kicks off Sept. 26, and Buzz has a first look at Gossip Girl's season five promo. The cast heads to the West Coast for the opening episode full of sexy hookups, lies, and, of course, fantastic fashion. Blake spent a few weeks in LA filming for that episode, which gave her additional time to hang with boyfriend Leonardo Dicaprio. He's currently on location in Australia filming The Great Gatsby but that hasn't stopped the couple from seeing each other since Blake's reportedly already visited Leonardo in Sydney.

OK, that was a bit childish. And, yes, the actress is actually not in either one of those places, but rather in the Big Apple.
However, those are most certainly her unmentionables being inadvertently exposed on the Gossip Girl set.
It seems the actress was busy shooting a scene for her show when Mother Nature decided to send a little wind Blake's way to create a wee wardrobe malfunction.
And thereby reminding us why Blake is Leonardo DiCaprio's better half!

Ed Westwick Hits the US Open
Tennis, anyone? Yesterday at the US Open, I spied our beloved Ed Westwick at the Lacoste suite with his brother, where the blokes sipped tea and politely applauded the action like proper English gents. Ed also picked up a Lacoste shirt in every color, even ditching the t-shirt he arrived in to change into a fresh pink polo. How could anyone possibly focus on the on-court action with Ed shirtless just a few seats away?

SPOTTED: Leighton Meester lands in Toronto and, apparently, knows our national anthem
Leighton Meester, the sassiest and, arguably, most put-together cast member of Gossip Girl (only Blair could pull off extreme schoolgirl-chic ) has arrived in Toronto. We haven’t heard word of any in-person sightings yet, but Meester tweeted, “Just landed in Toronto for #TIFF “The Oranges” screening tonight. Oh Canada!” The Globe and Mail reports that the cast of The Oranges will be at the Atelier tonight, while fellow Gossip gal Blake Lively is hosting the official Hick cast party at the Burroughes Building. Rumour has it Meester and Lively will be hanging out at Goodnight Gansevoort in the wee hours of the night at a very private function to celebrate The Oranges’ premiere.

PROGRAMMER'S NOTE
It’s not often you find two families closer than the Wallings and the Ostroffs. They live across the street from one another in their cozy New Jersey suburb, where they exercise together, spend holidays together and regularly have each other over for Sunday dinners. But one of the Wallings is about to get a little too close with one of the Ostroffs.
The marriage of David and Paige Walling (Hugh Laurie and Catherine Keener) may have lost a bit of its spark: David spends his nights in front of the TV in his “man cave”; Paige probably devotes too much energy to her perky Christmas carol choir. But no one would have guessed that David would end up in the arms of a woman half his age — especially when that woman turns out to be Nina (Leighton Meester), the daughter of Terry and Carol Ostroff (Oliver Platt and Allison Janney), who returns after years away at college looking a lot more womanly than when she left. In no time David and Nina are shacking up, Paige is renting an entire upscale bed and breakfast for herself just to ding David’s credit cards, Terry and Carol are baffled and ashamed, and Paige and David’s daughter Vanessa (Alia Shawkat) is taking refuge in pot and bitch sessions with her coworkers while wondering when she is ever going to get the hell out of Jersey.
Populated by one of the most inspired comedic ensembles imaginable, and helmed by Julian Farino, a veteran director responsible for some of the smartest, wittiest and most daring television of the last decade, The Oranges makes infidelity, humiliation and familial collapse far more of a good time than any movie has a right to. Laurie is entirely convincing as an appealing older man — even touching in his hapless adoration of Nina. But it’s Shawkat who somehow manages to steal the show with her razor-sharp one-liners and running commentary on the depths of domestic dysfunction. The combination ultimately builds to a satisfying, mature and unconventional climax.
