| Say life is giving you signs.-Всё верно
I just want to take a moment to appreciate just the arc of dan and blair, the parallels in their conversations, and everything the writers have done right with them. it’s the one thing that is still interesting about the show, and I really hope they don’t mess it all up because I know it’s the only thing that some people (including myself) tune into see.
first of all I love how scenes between them earlier in the series are being paralleled in season 5. first it was in 5x01 which paralleled 1x04 when dan is telling blair about how he almost confronted his mother but he didn’t. “so there I was, looking her straight in the eye. and I didn’t say anything” that was exactly what was happening in 5x01, she was asking him why he’d want her to give up her engagement, kind of demanding an answer and he just stood there looking at her, not saying a word. then gossip girl says the thing about “3 words, 8 letters don’t come out right when no one wants to hear them” and in 1x04 dan says he wish he had said something to his mom because “even if it didn’t change anything, she’d know how I felt”. this whole season dan has been struggling with whether he should tell blair how he feels.
also the “say life is giving you signs” thing in s3, I don’t remember what episode but blair is trying to decide whether or not to go the empire state building to meet chuck, then dan says “say life is giving you signs and you’re ignoring them, because you’re afraid of the thing they’re signaling you to do, but then you think, maybe these signs are here for a reason and ignoring them just makes me a coward” and blair looks over and sees the empire state building in the distance, she takes this as a sign that she should go meet chuck. but what I find interesting is that in the image of the empire state building the brooklyn bridge is surrounding it (brooklyn = dan). then just to come full circle with the signs, later after blair is late to meet chuck because dorota went into labor (and dan just happened to be there with her), chuck sleeps with jenny, then blair shows up and chuck acts like nothing happened, and he was about to propose to blair when dan comes and punches chuck in the face, interrupting his proposal. if those things aren’t signs I don’t know what is, it was very light foreshadowing that you can look back at now and think “wow that makes sense”.
the whole signs thing is always there in the dan/blair relationship, most recent is in 5x02 when blair is literally praying for help and she looks up and sees dan. she prayed and he was there when she needed his help, and she was so thankful. you can see it in her face when she sees him, any anger she had for him melted away. also blair got this big flashing neon sign from the universe when she tried to run off with chuck and nearly lost her life, even gossip girl said she chose poorly.
parallels in the characters of dan and blair have been there from the beginning as well. when we meet them both they’re both virgins, who think of sex as a big deal unlike most of their peers, the two of them are also the ones most concerned and motivated to further their education. blair is determined to get into yale and dan is determined to get into darmouth. when the swimming pool incident occurs, blair and dan were the two most worried about how this would effect their education. they’re also both intellectual snobs and highly judgmental of the other. blair looks down on dan for being from brooklyn, dan thinks blair is a package of girly evil. they both judge each other and over the course of the show they realize they’re more alike than they thought and they move past their initial assumptions, although I think they’ll always poke fun at each other over things like social standings and where they come from. one more parallel is from 2x08 when blair is trying to decide whether she should tell chuck she loves him and dan tells her “you have to decide whats most important to you. keeping your pride and getting nothing or taking a risk and maybe, maybe having everything.” this mirrors the current situation with dan struggling to decide if he should blair he loves her. also it could go for blair running away from her feelings for dan, it’d be easier to marry louis and keep her pride but she knows she wont feel complete with it, she feels like something is missing. or she could take a risk with dan and have a chance at the whole package, a good, pure, simple love with that same fire and excitement she feels with chuck. only without all the you know, abuse and stuff. dan is basically a center between chuck and louis, he represents what she needs from both of them in one package but she’s pushing her feelings away. they both need to take that risk if they want a chance at that kind of great love.
one more thing I see similarities with is rufus and lily’s relationship and dan and blair’s. I know that it was sort of meant to mirror dan and serena but I definitely see more parallels with dan and blair. rufus waited for lily, he watched her marry another man when he knew he loved her, but he let her go because he wanted her to be happy and he let her make her own decision. and she came back to him in the end. also lily and blair have the same distaste for brooklyn but end up there a lot to see rufus/dan.
basically all I’m saying is that this SL has been perfect so far, perfectly timed and well constructed and just flawless, I’d hate for all of this build-up to lead nowhere. I cant believe they’d make dan fall in love with blair if it was never going to be explored that they could be together romantically. the writers could either turn this into the greatest love story on TV right now or ruin it, and it’ll be known as the most perfect relationship that could have been. it’s sad that so many people cant see the beauty in this arc, maybe all these chuckistans or whatever the hell they call themselves are too stupid (no I’m not calling all chuck fans stupid but come on, some of them are and they’re too stubborn and threatened to see the validity in d/b for what it is), maybe some of the writing they do on this show is actually too intelligent for some people to fully appreciate. I’d be so disappointed to not see this relationship come to fruition because the people involved in the show are too concerned with pleasing fans to see it through completely. people need to realize this is the love story, this is the thing that has been building since s1, they’ve had this amazing evolution from enemies, to unlikely friends, and something more. it’s everything I love in a TV relationship, they make each other happy, they encourage each other to better themselves, they support each other, and genuinely enjoy each other’s company. and they’re funny, they bicker and it’s hilarious. it isn’t a boring boy meets girl love story I just wish more people could see that. this is the best thing to happen to this show, period.

Каждый смотрит свой сериал. Сценаристы очень хитрые и коварные люди. Оставляют зацепки, но при этом показывают бред или актеры устали. Мне очень интересно, а почему никто не интересуется остальными. Где спойлеры про Серену, Нейта? Где семейные ценности, новые интриги, универ в котором все должны учиться?
