"The Wrong Goodbye" My Ridiculous Analyses Back a few episodes where Chuck assaulted Blair I had suspicion that the Gossip Girl Writers were trying to make it really really obvious that Chuck and Blair are not good for each other. There are plenty of moments through out the whole series that would be clear cut to any dignified person that Chuck is not healthy for Blair but the assaulting scene cuts the cake. Yet, the writers took it one step further and that’s the Bar Mitzvah scene. (This is the ridiculous part, sorry I took film class) The fact that Chuck and Blair or the otherwise infamous “Chair” were on chairs, was call out to Chair fans. The scene itself was ridiculous, you have to ask yourself “why would the writers choose for Blair and Chuck’s final hookup, out of all other places, a Bar Mitzvah?”
The writers are pretty much calling out to the Chair fans. They’re saying this is it. (yup… I went there.)
The Bar Mitzvah - Blair and Chuck’s final last hookup
In this scene, you see not only Blair and Chuck finally getting along, but hysterically happy and dancing; a mutual happiness with eachother, this is their forgiveness not for what they did to eachother but for what their abusive relationship did to each other as people.
This theory can be further established with Adele’s song “Rolling in the Deep” playing in the background. A song that is about being abused (remember, there is various types of abuse; emotional, verbal, financial- not just physical and sexual) and if it wasn’t for the abuse, the relationship could have been priceless much like Blair’s and Chuck’s relationship.
Furthermore, a scene where Vanessa snoops around Dan office is also played during the song. This is also something to think about for the sake of the song, we have Vanessa and Dan who has been friends since grade school, a trait that can make a great romantic relationship, but because of Vanessa constant criticism and judgments, the relationship is soiled also and Dan rejects her.
Blair and Chuck also had their last infamous Hookup. An homage I guess, for what they’re relationship is known for. Their relationship started with an affair as Blair was in a relationship with Nate and they ended with an affair as Blair is engaged with Prince Louis.
The Great Love - An end to an abusive relationship
This is then followed by Blair telling Chuck that their love for eachother is much more exciting then hers and her fiancée’s. This is something that occurs commonly in abusive relationships called “Stockholm Syndrome” where the victim is so captivated by his or her abuser that the abuse is dismissed as the “exciting” part of the relationship, so when the rare act of kindness occurs it to becomes exaggerated and is seen as progress of love when in reality they are moments where the abuser is just simply not abusing.
This idea is confirmed when a content Chuck confidently and maturely tells Blair that there is a difference between a “great love and a right love”
The great love being exciting and short lived (Blair and Chuck) and the right love being healthy, genuinely happy and being with someone who you can grow old with (Blair and Prince Louis or also Blair and Dan)
In one of the final scenes, Chuck and Blair acts as true friends. He gives her a “good friend” kiss on the cheek and leaves just like that. Right when he exits the scene Dan, Blair’s new love interest, steps into the scene immediately- replacing Chuck. Blair tells Dan, “I bet you never thought you would get invited to a royal wedding.” In which he replies ,”Only my own.” Foreshadowing their future relationship.
The Title - Dan’s wrong goodbye
On another note, in concern of the episode title, if it meant anything, the wrong goodbye would be from Dan Humphrey- the only one who is left discontent at the end of the season. Nate is whatever, Serena confidently takes some time to think about herself and her pregnancy (yes, I do believe the pregnancy test is hers for numerous of reasons), Vanessa finally did something good and that just leaves Dan, who said “I wouldn’t mind leaving the city, it’s getting me down.” His Dad ask if it’s because of his previous girlfriend Charlie and Eric tells him that it is her Dan is talking about.
The Pregnancy Test - Serena’s…
As for the Pregnancy test, at a risk of jinxing it, I’m moderately sure that it’s Serena’s. Why it’s not Blair’s? Well for one, she already had that “I almost had Chuck’s baby!” thing from season one; two, she was way too happy to see Prince Louis if she knows she is prego; three, Blair has enough drama for the writer to keep her story interesting what with the love triangle between Prince Louis and Dan and the rumored Eva and Olivia returning next season which leaves to four, Serena who sleeps with a lot men is left at the end of the season with nothing to build on other than that movie thing and… the pregnancy. Notice she didn’t really flirt with the guy as much she usually does with others.
