‘Gossip Girl’ Recap: Blair Reveals The Father Of Her Baby, Plus 4 More ‘OMG’ Moments!

We FINALLY found out the father of Blair’s baby on the Oct. 10episode of ‘Gossip Girl’ — and I’m SO disappointed!
Last week, Blair (Leighton Meester) told three people about her big baby secret — including Dan Humphry (Penn Badgley). We were SURE one of them was going to spill her secret, wreaking havoc on the Upper East Side. But this time, Gossip Girl has taken a turn for the worse. Blair mustered up the courage to take a paternity test on her own to find out if either Chuck (Ed Westwick) or Prince Louis (Hugo Becker) was the father. Drum roll please …

As of now, nothing is standing in the way of Blair’s dream of becoming royalty. The father of the child she is bearing is PRINCE LOUIS (Hugo Becker!)

Now, we know we can’t believe everything Gossip Girl tells us. We DID go an entire season believing Ivy (Kaylee Defer) was Serena’s (Blake Lively) cousin, Charlie, after all. Oh, and remember when Dan and Georgina Sparks (Michelle Trachtenberg) had baby Milo? So there’s still hope Chair fans!

Louis seems pretty excited to be the father, so we’re just going to have to roll with it for now. But let’s not forget that we haven’t actually seen the paternity test results yet — so Blair COULD be lying!

More ‘OMG’ Moments:

#1 Blair tells Chuck she’s pregnant:

The first person Blair revealed the father of her baby to was Chuck, to which Chuck cried and cuddled with his new dog friend; it was heartbreaking! And finally, Blair admitted: “There was a part of me that really wanted it to be yours.” (So did we!!!)

#2 Lily is free:

Serena’s mom Lily (Kelly Rutherford) is finally back in the picture — and she’s no longer on house arrest! The fancy Upper East Sider can finally get back in the groove of things.

#3 Ivy decides to stay in NYC:

And let me be the first to say, I’m happy she is! After putting Lily’s sister — who hired her to be her fake daughter to get her real daughter’s trust fund — in her place, Ivy decided she’s going to stay and live out this wild fantasy as Charlie. More power to her! I just hope Nate (Chace Crawford) doesn’t find out who she really is…

#4 Dan’s book gets published:

Dan’s secret novel about the musings of the Upper East Side is finally going public. It definitely looks like it’s going to cause major drama after watching next week’s preview! We can’t wait to see what comes of it!

What do you think, Hollywoodlifers? Blair says Louis is the father of her baby — but do YOU believe her? And were you as shocked as I was when she made her big announcement? What were YOUR ‘OMG’ moments? Vote and drop a comment below!

GOSSIP GIRL “The Jewel of Denial” Review

GOSSIP GIRL “The Jewel of Denial” Season 5 Episode 3 – Well, color me shocked! In “The Jewel of Denial,” only the third episode of this season of

We’ll get to that eventually. Like Blair, I’m a procrastinator.

There was a fashion show this week which meant a lot of pretty dresses (Blair’s especially). Serena’s mom got released from to stay in New York and even to move into Casa de van der Woodsen. But she also had her phone taken by Nate and Diana; her secrets are on the brink of full disclosure.

Dan finally decided to stop being a wuss and claimed authorship of his book when his mentor threatened to publish it under his own name. Nate went further down the rabbit-hole by at first unwittingly and then knowingly creating scandal for Diana’s newspaper. While I commend him for leaving his friends’ phones alone, it says something that he was more than willing to dig up dirt on everyone else in Manhattan.

And then there’s Chuck. Oh, Chuck. Not even a sweet puppy dog could kick-start his feelings. No, it took a much bigger emotional blow to crack through his psychosis.

In a twist of fate (or a mistake on the part of the writers) Chuck is not the father of Blair’s baby, a fact which she felt compelled to tell him as soon as she was able to look at the results of her test.

All right, so was I the only one who had to Google “how early can paternity be established?” to figure out if it was even possible for Blair to get those results before she even shows a bump? As it turns out, there are two methods that are feasible this early into pregnancy, but they’re both dangerous and insanely expensive. I guess both the money and the risk were worth it.

At least we have an answer. Blair and Louis are going to be royal parents. And while we’re on the subject of royalty, why isn’t Blair being stalked by paparazzi? She’s marrying a prince, but she was out on the streets, discussing her paternity test with Dan, and not a single photographer snapped a picture of her or tried to invade her privacy? I feel that somewhere in England, the Duchess of Cornwall is calling bull on that.

By the way, Blair, I would burn that letter from your OB/GYN. Have you learned nothing after five years? It will come back to haunt you.

I have a request, Gossip Girl, and it calls for many more scenes with Blair and Chuck. There’s something about them being together on screen. Everything seems more interesting. Don’t let the best pairing on your show die off. ‘Cause it seems like you might not find something better to replace it.

What did you think of this week’s episode? Will everyone hate Dan when the book comes out? Was it weird to see Chuck Bass crying with his dog?

What Are They Wearing in Gossip Girl Season 5, Episode 3: “The Jewel of Denial”

Gossip Girl may always leave us wanting a bit more in the Department of Dramatic Relationships (*cough*Chair*cough), but we are decidedly satisfied in the Fashion Department. The thematic relevancy of the designer duds in relation to the mood of each episode never ceases to amaze us — and here’s what we have in store for Season 5, Episode 3: “The Jewel of Denial.”

Photo Credit: Giovanni Rufino©2011 The CW Network, LLC
Blair (Leighton Meester) goes for understated elegance with aplomb in a watercolory floral-printed Louis Vuitton dress with a black sash. The muted palette may well match her somber mood at not knowing whether or not she’s actually carrying a royal heir.

Diana is as Diana dresses — like a loose woman (of morals and/or otherwise). Sure, she looks sultry in her Marios Schwab number, but the sex-addled cougar shtick is already getting old.

Serena (Blake Lively) is still full of west coast whimsy with her 12th St by Cynthia Vincent dress, fun Siman Tu, Stephen Dweck, and MCL necklaces, and absolutely covetable Charlotte Olympia pumps. All that sunshine has definitely affected her sense of style for the better — but it may have also affected her judgement when she decided to bring her scheming “cousin” Charlie (Kaylee DeFer) back with her. Sure, that “cousin” does look adorable and innocent in her little Levi’s, Lanvins, and Phillip Lim top... But we know better. The question remains: Will her story be as good as her outfit?

We’ll know soon enough.

Gossip Girl Recap of Season 5, Episode 3: “The Jewel of Denial”

Chuck got a puppy! First he wasn’t sure about the puppy, then he took good care of the puppy, then he loved the puppy and named it Monkey and snuggled it in his bed. Good night!

OK, fine, some other stuff happened too. Although honestly none of it was nearly as important. Anyway, Blair (Leighton Meester) got a paternity test, but now she’s back in denial and refusing to open the envelope. Instead she’s like, “Oh! I have to go shopping. No time to find out who the father of my child is.” Dorota, aghast that Blair is not only a hussy but a flaky hussy at that, enlists Dan (Penn Badgley) to get her to face up to the truth. He puts on his Good Guy jacket and rides to her rescue — which he gets extra points for, since he’s got a bit of a paternity problem of his own on his hands.

They say success has a thousand fathers. In the case of Dan’s book, it’s got at least two. Chuck sleeps with an editorial assistant to find out who has Dan’s book. Dan gets him a puppy to thank him (!!!). After Dan confides in his old mentor Noah to ask for help blocking the book’s publication, Noah takes a two pronged approach: A. Calling Dan a coward; and B. claiming credit for the book himself. Hey, which does Dan fear more: Getting the cold shoulder from his society friends, or having his genius go unheralded? He and his ego have a tough choice to make.

Diana Payne (Elizabeth Hurley) starts Nate (Chace Crawford)’s internship with a bang. Well, several. One when she fires the entire staff, and another a few minutes later, on top of her desk. Nate worries that she just wants him for sex (which, aww. Most guys would love to be a gorgeous woman’s sex toy, but poor Nate really does get objectified a lot), but when Diana does give him some responsibility, it’s even worse, as she feeds him some info that makes him unwittingly destroy a senator’s marriage. Turns out Diana doesn’t exactly want to build a paragon of journalistic integrity — she wants the Spectator to be a scandalous gossip rag, and to that end she needs a story that no one else has. Cue the Jenny Packham fashion show, the fancy party du jour, where Diana has persuaded the organizers to make all the guests surrender their phones at the door so she can get one juicy, Gossip-Girl-proof scoop.

As promised, Serena (Blake Lively) drags Charlie/Ivy back to Manhattan for shopping, fancy parties, and crippling fear of exposure. Ivy knows she doesn’t have long before her “mom” finds out she’s trying to use her checkbook again, and sure enough, Carol soon comes storming up to Manhattan. Ivy freaks, almost running back to poor chef Max, who should probably start blocking her calls. But then, with a little unwitting help from Blair, she realizes the obvious: Carol used Ivy to perpetrate a fraud and steal from her own daughter, so how exactly is she going to get rid of her without winding up in an ankle bracelet to match her sister’s? So Ivy gets to stay! At least until the real Charlie digs her way out of whatever basement Carol’s got her locked in.

Speaking of the Felonious Sisters Rhodes, Lily is finally free! Maybe that means she and Rufus can have a plotline again. Not this week though.

Nate gets on board with Diana’s dirt-digging ways, and they steal all the phones from the Packham party’s rich, powerful attendees to dig through their secrets. Phone hacking! Topical. Nate protects Dan and Blair, but unwittingly steals Ivy’s phone. How long will it be til he figures her secret out? Knowing Nate, it could take years.

Dan avoids his own dilemma by badgering Blair to deal with hers. After ditching him, insulting his hair, and pushing him into a waiter, she finally relents and opens the envelope. Dan does a little sacking up himself and goes to confront Noah, demanding credit for his book. Which, of course, is what Noah was after all along. Looks like Dan’s about to be a published, totally nonymous author.

Enough about Dan’s authorial ditherings and Connivy Ivy. Who’s the gosh-darn father? Blair goes to Chuck’s place to break the news — that it’s Louis’ child she’s carrying. Chuck finally feels something at hearing this, and climbs into bed to snuggle his dog Monkey and cry, which we swear actually happened on the show and we did not just make up. It is both painfully adorable and like something out of an alternate universe.

Blair tells Louis he’s going to be a father, and he’s overjoyed. Whew! That’s all settled then. Oh, except Blair very shadily hides the test results. She totally lied. Chuck’s totally the real father. Good thing he’s got Monkey to practice his parenting skills on.

A Gossip Girl Movie?? Spoilers for Episode 4, “Memoirs of an Invisible Dan”

Sounds like Serena (Blake Lively) is taking big strides to impress her new boss (guest star Michael Michele)! E! Online reports that in next week’s episode, “Memoirs of an Invisible Dan,” S might be the one person who has fewer qualms than most with Dan (Penn Badgley)’s debut novel... because she’s hungry for the film rights! One week a glorified intern, the next an assistant, and the next a budding film producer! Awww, life on the Upper East Side...

Not quite so pleased with the book? Rufus, apparently, as it’s supposed to cause some tension between the Humphrey men. Rufus, who eschews all things upper crust? Say it ain’t so! Perhaps the book contains some less-than-kind things about Lily? Or all-but-totally-forgotten Alison Humphrey? Surely not Jenny, Dan’s little sis!

At least Rufus will have Lily by his side for the foreseeable future! Executive Producer Joshua Safran told E!, “We really don’t want to mess with that couple. We really believe that they worked really hard to get together. I think that might mean less single standalone stories for them, but that’s because we want them to be grounded, together, and intact so they fold into people’s stories as opposed to having their own definable arcs.”

Surely the recently-unveiled, sans-ankle bracelet Lily would be okay with that drama-free logic!

Top 10 Quotes From Gossip Girl Season 5, Episode 3: “The Jewel of Denial”

Applause to the Gossip Girl writers: Snappy lines are the main reason we tune in each week, and Season 5, Episode 3’s “The Jewel of Denial” did not disappoint. Keep the Bassness coming!

10. Well, not according to the Department Of Labor.
Blair (Leighton Meester): An employee with one child is annoying. Two is grounds for termination.

9. Ivy's Batsh*t Mitzvah
Serena (Blake Lively): This place is practically a mecca for psychotic freaks. Everyone goes off the rails at some point on the Upper East Side. It's practically our version of a Bat Mitzvah.

8. Chuck's probably been the target of a bounty hunter or two.
Noah Shapiro: Have you seen the bestseller lists lately? Unless you're friends with Rizzoli and Isles or related to a bounty hunter, no one will give a crap about your book. You'll be lucky to make it into the remainder bin at the Strand.

7. At least she's got an anchor baby.
Blair: Go away. I'm preparing for my interview with Hello! Magazine.
Dorota (Zuzanna Szadkowski): But doctor's office call again! They have test results!
Blair: Hang up or I’ll tell the reporter you’re undocumented!

6. Dan breaks out the big emo guns...
Chuck (Ed Westwick): (staring at his new puppy) I suffered through mediocre sex with an editor's assistant to find out who's publishing your book and this is how you repay me?
Dan (Penn Badgley): Chuck, you felt nothing after Field Of Dreams, so I'm taking it to the next level. If that movie can't make you feel, maybe this little guy can.

5. How Chuck makes a persuasive argument
Dan: I have to see my old mentor, Noah Shapiro. It'll take some persuading but I think he'll help.
Chuck: I have some kneepads in the bedroom if you need them.

4. Zabars is delicious, though.
Dorota: Mr. Humphrey coming over to help with letter opening.
Blair: Mention that name again and you'll be exiled to work someplace horrible. Like the Upper West Side. And you know what happens to housekeepers there.
Dorota: (Darkly) Zabars zombies.

3. That should be a Hallmark card.
Dorota: (pointedly, to Blair) I must say, best part of pregnancy is knowing who father is.

2. Also his fur coats are covered with paint now
Nate (Chace Crawford): (re: Monkey) Whoa, who's this little guy?
Dan: He's Chuck's new, uh —
Chuck: Drunken mistake. Never sleep with a girl from PETA.

1. Uh, remember how that ended?
Nate: You had everyone's phones taken, why didn't you just look through them?
Diana (Elizabeth Hurley): Nate, that's brilliant! And if we act fast we can have them back before anyone even knows they've gone. It's a one stop shop of illicit emails, incriminating photos, and sex. Are you sure you didn't work for News Corp?

Poop or Scoop: Leighton Meester Dog Walks With New Darling?

While drama seems to follow her character, Blair Waldorf, everyyywhere she goes, actress Leighton Meester was grounded in reality on Monday, October 10, as she walked her dog in Los Angeles. Dutiful citizen and pet-owner Leighton picked up after the pooch and chatted with a mystery companion that we’ve ID’d as actor Joshua LeBar.

LeBar, like Leighton, has clocked guest-star time on Entourage, but also manages LA-based band Check in the Dark, with whom Leighton did a series of sessions last summer (you can seem ‘em here) for HTC. Rumors have swirled about the two dating as far back as 2008, but odds seem more in favor of the pair just being good pals who like to stroll in the sunshine and obey scoop laws!

Secret References From Gossip Girl Season 5, Episode 3: We Break the Code!

Lots of Gossip Girl’s fictional happenings actually feature real-world places and faces. Names are dropped so quickly it can be hard to keep track. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here are the whos, whats and wheres you need to know from Season 5, Episode 3: “The Jewel of Denial.”

Jenny Packham

Blair and Ivy/Charlie looked great in those Jenny Packham dresses, didn't they? No surprise – Jenny Packham is a bridal and ready-to-wear designer known for her balance of glamour and understated elegance. Perfect for a Park Avenue princess — and for real ones like Kate Middleton.

Simon Doonan

Blair may have shone at the Jenny Packham show, but her escort deserved better than a sloppy interference by Dan. Simon Doonan, legendary Creative Ambassador-at-Large for Barneys, appearing in a 10-second cameo? Usually when slumming NYC glitterati drop by Gossip Girl, they at least get a bit of awkward dialogue to be like, "Yes, it's really me."

News Corp

"Are you sure you didn't work for News Corp?" Diana asks Nate as she snoops through a few dozen cell phones. We were just about to ask her the same thing. News Corp is Rupert Murdoch's media empire. It includes Fox News and a number of newspapers in the UK, one of which got in huge trouble this past summer when it was revealed they'd hacked into dozens of cell phones, including that of a young murder victim. There's a reason Gossip Girl is anonymous...

Speculation: Is Kaylee DeFer Replacing Blake Lively on Gossip Girl?

It’s no secret that some of the cast, Blake Lively (Serena) in particular, have their eyes on bigger things than Gossip Girl. We assumed that’s why Kaylee DeFer (Ivy) has joined the cast — to pick up the inevitable slack. But now we wonder if she’s not so much a down-the-line contingency plan as an all-out Serena 2.0. Are the producers planning to make this the Ivy Show sooner rather than later — at Serena’s expense?

Think about it. Blake Lively has only had one thing approaching a plotline this year, and it was in the first episode. And it was about her job. We haven’t seen her bang an inappropriate older man once, and it’s already Episode Three!

S seems to have lost control of her usual stable of love interests as well. For the first time, both Nate and Dan seem 100% over her — Nate’s focused on Elizabeth Hurley (and who wouldn’t be?), and Dan seems to have transferred his upwardly-mobile crush to Blair.

Of course, S could be screwing her way up and down Park Avenue for all we know, since we barely see her. She only pops up to say vague, supportive things to Blair and to do that weird friendly bullying thing to Ivy. Which, by the way, is entirely from Ivy’s point of view. Serena used to be the POV character on the show — now Gossip Girl’s Serena scenes could be titled Attack of the Giant Blonde Class Anxiety Monster.

So is Serena sidelined for good? Or is it too early to tell? Maybe the producers are sitting on a juicy story about Serena sleeping with David O. Russell or something. If not, we’re not sure our hearts will be broken. S has had a great run, and since Blake’s obviously itching to move on, maybe having her show up for five minutes an episode to yell at Ivy for not acting rich enough is the way to gently ease her out.

Top 5 OMG Moments From Gossip Girl Season 5, Episode 3: “The Jewel of Denial”

“Control the flow of information, and you control everything,” Diana said last week. This week proved her right. Dan, Blair, Ivy, and Nate all struggled to control the narrative, with mixed results. Here are the top five shocking moments from Season 5, Episode 3: “The Jewel Of Denial.”

5. Dan. Chuck. Puppy.

Was Chuck (Ed Westwick)’s puppy acquisition as scandalous as blackmail, identity theft, and paternity scandals? No. Are we more interested in talking about it? Yes. Of course we miss Chair, but if we get The Adventures Of Chuck And Monkey in the meantime, we're okay with it. We are slightly concerned about Monkey's fate, though. Has Chuck ever loved anything before that he couldn't snort, swill, or screw? We hope the ASPCA doesn't have to get involved.

4. Noah steals Dan's book

We're slightly disappointed that this turned out to be a trick just to teach Dan (Penn Badgley) a lesson. What, tweedy old guys can't perpetrate self-serving schemes too? Gossip Girl is so ageist.

3. Charlie blackmails Carol

Why did it take her this long to think of this? Carol has more to lose by exposing Ivy (Kaylee DeFer) than Ivy herself. Ivy was just a hired hand. Carol conned her own family. Speaking of Carol — why did she even have to do this? Doesn't she have a trust fund of her own? Apparently what shocks us most about this plotline is how little sense it makes.

2. Chuck cries

We don't think we've seen Chuck shed a tear since his dad died. Of course, losing the love of your life for good will do that to a guy. But cheer up, Chuckles. There's reason to believe Blair (Leighton Meester)'s carrying your Bass-tard after all...

1. Blair hides the paternity results

Why else would B sneak the paternity test into a drawer, unless Chuck was the real baby daddy? Watch out, Monaco. In twenty years, the heir to your throne is going to turn the whole country into a burlesque club.

The unintentionally hilarious new OK! cover laments the end of America’s Greatest Fictional Couple.

According to the magazine, Ryan Reynolds has “dumped” Sandra Bullock for Blake Lively, ending “the romantic karma comeback story of the year.”

A so-called “source” claims, “Sandra is crushed. She’s doing her absolute best to hold her head high and act as if she’s not bothered, but the truth is, she’s very hurt.

OK! wonders whether the supposed Bullock-Reynolds relationship “was too good to be true” after his “steamy Boston weekend” with Green Lantern co-star Lively, and the tabloid describes Reynolds allegedly choosing Lively as “another soul-crushing blow” to Bullock.

Well, it was certainly too imaginary to be true!

We know it might crush OK!’s soul, but, as Gossip Cop has reported ever since silly rumors first surfaced, Bullock and Reynolds never dated.

They. Did. Not. Date.

Period.

Of course, now that Lively is newly single (having just split with Leonardo DiCaprio), she and Reynolds have been the rumor du jour, meaning OK! can use that angle to make Bullock seem like a pathetic sad sack.

Here’s what’s true:

Bullock and Reynolds are former co-stars and friends.

They were never a couple.

A source close to Bullock tells Gossip Cop “it’s all lies.”

Once again, OK! is anything but okay.

Chuck Bass & Monkey Vs. Robert Pattinson & Bear! Who’s The Sexier Dog Owner?

Robert and Chuck look like genuine gents as they take their four-legged best friends for a casual stroll.
Bear and Monkey are two dogs that have a lot in common. They both have animal names, are rescue dogs and are pretty scruffy looking. But what truly ties the two together are their famous owners — Twilight‘s Robert Pattison and Gossip Girl‘s Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick).

Bear is the mutt of Rob, 25, and his girlfriend, Kristen Stewart, 21, adopted together while filming Breaking Dawn. And Monkey is Chuck’s newest friend — who will hopefully heal his broken heart while his pregnant ex-girlfriend Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) prepares to marry a prince! Clearly, Bear and Monkey were both purchases made out of love.

It’s a no-brainer that these animals are very, very lucky. But if you had to choose, which canine companion has the sexier owner– would you pick Gossip Girl‘s king of Manhattan Chuck Bass, or Twilight‘s blood-sucking Robert Pattinson? Vote and weigh in below!
